Cory Booker’s achievement is worth celebrating, and as a Black woman, I feel immense pride in seeing a Black man break a Senate record that was upheld for so long by hate and racism. But let’s be clear—he, nor anyone like him, is a superhero sent to save you. Black people are not your saviors, and if you haven’t noticed, we’re not exactly in the mood for rescue missions lately. The real work of dismantling racism (and “fixing” this damn country) isn’t about cheering for a single leader—it’s about what you are doing every day to challenge and help this place move forward.
Reflect on how you engage in progress beyond celebrating individual Black leaders. Identify one concrete action that you can take this week.
