🧘‍♀️ Neck - Seat of the Vishuddha Chakra

In yoga, the neck is the seat of the Vishuddha Chakra, or throat chakra, governing communication and self-expression. A healthy neck facilitates smooth energy movement, supporting both physical and spiritual well-being.

Due to its delicate nature, any strain, stiffness, or misalignment in this region can create both physical pain and energetic blockages. To prevent these issues, yoga incorporates Brahma Mudra, a practice specifically designed to strengthen, heal, and revitalize the neck.

🧘‍♂️ What is Brahma Mudra?

Brahma Mudra is a simple yogic technique that improves neck flexibility, relieves tension, and promotes emotional balance. Inspired by Brahma, the creator in the Hindu Trinity, this practice is based on the symbolic four directions—right, left, up, and down—representing stability and balance.

🔄 How to Perform Brahma Mudra

This practice involves controlled head movements, synchronized with breath and Bija (seed) sounds:

1️⃣ Turn Right – Inhale while turning your head right, then exhale back to center, making the deep guttural sound “A”.

2️⃣ Turn Left – Inhale while turning left, then exhale back to center, making the puckered-lip sound “U”.

3️⃣ Look Up – Inhale while lifting your chin, then exhale back to center, making the tongue-raised sound “E”.

4️⃣ Look Down – Inhale while lowering your chin to your chest, then exhale back to center, making the humming sound “M”.

💡 Each inhalation moves away from the center, and each exhalation brings you back.

⚖️ Achieving Homeostasis Through Brahma Mudra

Homeostasis is the body's natural state of equilibrium and stability. Brahma Mudra, a psycho somatic practice helps achieve this by:

Aligning the nervous system – Reducing stress and anxiety. Rhythm is movement of breath and movement coordination calms the nervous system.

Enhancing blood circulation – Supporting brain and neck function. Movement and breath regulate the blood circulation.

Balancing emotions – Promoting mental clarity and relaxation. Activating baro receptors in the neck, slow longer exhalations activate the Rest & Digest Para sympathetic response.

Increased Vagal Tone – Vagus nerve activation improves heart health.
