Hello Functional Footwear friends,
Yesterday I received the tracking information for some new samples. I had hoped that these would be the final set, but based on some photos I have seen I think we will require one more round. We are so close. The factory and I are still ironing out some of the manufacturing kinks. We are working together to ensure the shoe uppers can consistently be assembled and the overall aesthetics properly complement the functional aspects of the footwear.
For now I wanted to share some photos of the last round of samples which I have with me. I also wanted to provide a little information about our shoemaking method and tell you a little bit about the factory we are now using.
The factory and our unique shoemaking method:
Through a familiar footwear contact I was put in touch with a factory in El Salvador. This factory has been making shoes since the 1950’s and now do work for many recognizable high quality brands. They specialize in Goodyear welt and Blake stitch but can also make cup-sole sneakers and moccasins.
Although at first we had some difficulty adapting their machines and systems to the unique last shape and make up of Turriff Footwear. My design and their processes have come together nicely and I am really pleased with the look, construction and materials. Together we have developed a unique style of shoe which combines the light weight Blake rapid construction with the rugged weatherproof Stitchdown method. Naturally the result is a light-weight, rugged, foot-shaped, daily wear outdoor shoe.
As the designer and maker, a main focus was to create something that will last along time and which can be easily repaired. This way you can get the most out of your purchase and we can help the planet at the same time. Our combination Blake stitch and Stitchdown allows for myself or your local cobbler to easily remove and replace the outsole or both the EVA cushion midsole and the outsole with out damaging the upper or the stitches attaching the upper and the leather midsole.
