Have a look at this round of development samples!
I recently received another round of test samples. I was really hoping to report that the shoes were ready for production. We are close but are not quite there. However, I am really happy with where things are headed. With a few minor tweaks to finishing details, materials and inside reinforcements, this next sample will be the last before the factory begins the real preparations for production.
The samples I received showcase three colour options using CF Steads Repello Calf suede. Repello suede has a tight knit fibre structure making the leather durable, weather and stain resistant and very pliable: ideal qualities for an active outdoor lifestyle. Over the last week I have taken a pair out in various terrains and weather conditions and am very pleased with the performance. On one outing I repeatedly had the shoes submerged in some deep puddles. My feet stayed dry and the shoes continued to look great with the added beginnings of a beautiful leather patina.
A few mailers ago I had hoped that we would be ready to start the pre-order sometime in March. We did not hit that timeline, but we will be ready to start taking orders soon. Before we are ready to begin sales there are a few more steps I would like to go through to feel certain I've done my due diligence regarding the shoes make up and performance.
After this final round of development I still want to go through some testing to make sure they are up to the functional standards I have been aiming for. Outside of my own testing, I am working with our footwear friends from stitchdown.com to give away one or two pairs of sample shoes. The shoes will go to devoted discourse members who are willing to wear the shoes hard and give us some unbiased feedback on the fit and performance.
I really appreciate everyone sticking with Turriff Footwear through this lengthy process. I am encouraged along with the continued interest and interaction I’m receiving with Functional Footwear mailers. Never did I imagine it would take so much time to get through sampling, but I need to roll through the processes without rushing. I have found it challenging to find a balance between my vision and what is capable at a scaled-up production level. I have slowed the process with my efforts to make something truly different. After receiving the last round of samples I am really excited. I can see that what we are going to be producing is an excellent combination of fit, quality making and materials, functionality, and value.
As we wait on this final sample and conduct our wear tests, I am also gathering the final information to determine pricing for the shoe. Everything should come together soon with the aim still being to get the first batch of shoes out around the end of summer.
Please let me know what you think of the development samples. I would love to hear any comments or thoughts on the colours options and overall shoe make up.
