Why You Should Never Ask A Beer Drinker How To Run A Brewery

If you are looking for a way to make money online, half the battle is knowing what it is that you want to do.

What kind of business is best for you based on your available time, your abilities, and your preferences?

By preferences I mean…

A vegan is going to feel very uncomfortable and struggle building an online business selling meat and animal products.

A highly religious person who deems anything other than the missionary position as a sin would not be suited for starting an app for swingers looking for extra-marital fun.

A feminist would struggle to run a business promoting misogynistic alpha male ideology.

An introvert who avoids conversations with strangers at all costs would struggle to do organic social media marketing where they need to open up conversations with strangers.

You get the idea.

Doing something that isn’t right for you just for the money rarely leads to success.

Yes, some people can do it, they can completely switch off and focus on selling products to a large market despite their personal and opposing opinions, but most people can’t.

And besides, those people who can do it usually manage others who do the actual work.

To a degree it also depends on how much money you are willing to invest, although you can start many types of online businesses today for free.

So the questions are…

Where do you start?

What do you do?

Which business model is best for you?

Should you try affiliate marketing?

And what style of affiliate marketing is best for you?

Should you start email marketing?

Is a newsletter best for you?

Should you start a community around an offline hobby or industry?

If you need help figuring out what you can do online as a way to make money, I’m available for a 30 minute or hour-long face-to-face talk where I can help you to identify which online business is right for you.

We will figure out what your strengths and weaknesses are.

And what your preferences and ability levels are.

We can discuss what the success potential is for you in what you believe you would like to do.

Please note, I am not one that likes to say that a person cannot achieve something specific as there are far too many people who do that and are completely wrong.

In truth, they have no idea whether a person can or can’t do something successfully.

In fact, telling someone that they cannot do something is often the main cause of them not actually achieving it because they decide not to bother after being told they can’t.

However…

That being said, there are factors which can predict how successful a person will be if they are not willing (or they fail) to do something specific.

Having potential weaknesses pointed out can actually be good.

It means that you can address that issue and approach it with a realistic expectation and plan.

A weakness doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t or can’t succeed, it may make it harder, but knowing how you work or don’t work allows you to compensate and create a workaround.

So, if you would like to have a non judgemental honest chat about what you can do to make money online then please reply to this email.

The price for 30 minutes is just $57.

The price for 60 minutes is just $97.

Yes, you could sit and talk with a friend or two for free, but it’s rare that a friend (or close family member) will listen with an open mind and offer up anything other than negativity.

Some may take the piss and call it ‘friendly’ banter.

(Psychologists agree most ‘banter’ is actually a form of bullying.)

They will try and convince you that you don’t have a chance in hell of succeeding, that anything online is nothing more than a scam (although they buy stuff online all the time!), and that they are just being realistic.

But they are far from being realistic.

For some strange reason people who have no knowledge, experience, or expertise of a specific subject somehow suddenly become a psychic expert who knows exactly what will happen in your future!

How do they know you will fail at email marketing when they don’t even know what an opt-in form, landing page, or autoresponder follow-up campaign is?

How do they know that you cannot run a successful paid community when they don’t even know what Substack, Skool, Payhip, or Patreon is or how many people are willing to pay to be part of a specific community?

How do they know that your YouTube channel about restoring old cars will fail when the only thing they ever watch is reruns of Heartbeat and On The Busses on ITV 3?

Yet, strangely, these know-nothings have a crystal ball allowing them to see into the future and declare with complete certainty… that you will fail!

I call bullshit on that.

I’ve stopped talking to friends and family about any of my online plans and projects because I know full well that they will tell me “it won’t work” when they don’t even understand what it is that I do!

It’s happened far too many times before.

I was once told that all online businesses were doomed to fail because of the dot com crash of 2000.

Not only was it 12 - 15 years later, but what I was doing was nothing like what happened in the late 1990s leading up to the crash.

Plus, the family member who offered up the sage opinion never used the internet at that time and had no understanding of anything other than what was reported in the news.

I was offered this advice while enjoying a quiet pint in the local Weatherpoons and that was when I came up with the beer drinker and the brewery analogy.

You wouldn’t ask a guy on how to successfully run a brewery when his only experience with beer is throwing it down the back of his neck!

You’d ask someone who has either run their own brewery or has been employed to manage one.

It sounds obvious, but sadly too many people allow others with less information and experience than them to put them off their plans by insisting that they will fail.

I think I have said enough on the subject.

But the point is this, you should be wary of who you talk to and who you ask advice from when it comes to your dreams or desires.

Ask the wrong person and you could easily be convinced to quit before you start and so you will never know whether you would have been successful or not.

So, if you would like to sit with me and talk through your ideas and figure out which business model is right for you and possibly formulate a plan for you, please email me and we can arrange a time that suits us both.

Prices are:

30 mins $57.

60 mins $97.

That also includes a recording of the meeting which is done online via Zoom or Google Meet, and a Google doc with notes from our chat.

Have a great day.

Andi
