Is It Time To Stop Chasing The Internet Marketing Dream?

Andi Leeman · The World According To...

I have been spending a lot of time recently thinking about how the online internet marketing and information publishing business is changing.

And the more I think about it the more I’m convinced that the internet marketing world is dying on its knees.

I truly believe that the future of online business is really going to be focusing on an offline ‘real world’ topic or industry and using the online world to connect with people from around the world and share more about those subjects.

I believe that these new Offline Online Hybrid Businesses will have a person (or persons) fronting them, and those people will become part of the business… if not THE business.

Very much like a celebrity podcaster, YouTuber, and Influencer. The business will be built around them and that subject.

I just cannot shake off the feeling that internet marketing as it has been known for the last 20 years is basically being replaced by AI.

Everything that you want or need to know can be found by AI because AI trawls the internet and goes through many millions of websites, pages, and pieces of data, and it can regurgitate all the information you need within seconds.

Yes, people often want to pay for experience and the advice from people who have been there in the trenches. They want to know what the pitfalls are and how to avoid them.

But here’s the thing, AI has been designed to detect patterns and it can go through millions of pieces of data at incredible speeds and find all the information that you need.

So very soon AI will be able to take all the information and experience that the gurus, and internet marketing professionals have shared online in videos, podcasts, and written content and will be able to extrapolate all the information it requires to give you a complete detailed blueprint of what you need to do and what you DON’T need to do.

Everything else after that is basically just personal fluff and opinion, which doesn’t necessarily help you.

Now I agree that people like to interact with and buy from real people.

We buy into people, we like to speak to other people, we need that connection and I do believe communities will play a role in the future of online business.

But when it comes to internet marketing and learning from people and being coached by people, you are paying over the odds to have access to someone so that you can get their advice, their guidance, and their experience.

Why pay for something you can get for free, especially if what you get is all you need without the personal fluff and filler?

Personal fluff and opinion isn’t going to be needed if all you need to do is follow a blueprint.

In truth, a lot of what online coaches and mentors say or do is going to get in the way.

Often you are paying for a person’s story, and it’s largely unnecessary.

The great thing about connecting with people like a mentor or a coach is that they are able to encourage you when you’re feeling down.

They can remind you that it is always going to be a hard slog once you have gone past the sowing seeds season and you’re now in the summer where there are long days of hot sweaty hard work and you’ve got bugs biting you but nothing yet to reap.

A coach and mentor can encourage you to keep at it.

It’s true, it gets hard before it gets better.

You start off all enthusiastic, you are really excited, you have lots of motivation to do the work, and then you hit a brick wall and it feels like you are not getting anywhere

And that’s when people stop so a coach and a mentor can encourage you to carry on but…

It won’t belong before AI can do that for you.

Why?

Because it is a well known fact that people hit a wall after starting off with enthusiasm. It’s what happens, it’s nature.

It’s nothing new.

AI chatbots will already know all about it as they have been fed millions of pieces of content which talks about this exact thing.

And so you will just go to AI and say “I’m struggling” and it’ll come back with some positive “oh yeah it’s always going to be hard at the start, but keep at it… you’ve got this” and it will give you that pep talk that you need so that you don’t quit.

People are already turning to AI for counselling and using it as a kind of therapist.

I have heard that it is a little too sycophantic at the moment and that some stronger guide rails need programming into AI otherwise it can be harmful to some people’s mental health.

But it won’t be long before AI will be able to give you all the encouragement you will ever need to hear.

It will be able to quote motivational and inspiring stories of success to keep you on track.

Basically what I’m saying is, AI is going to be taking over virtually every aspect of internet marketing and online information publishing because people are now going to it and using it for counseling and coaching.

So yes it won’t be long before AI has taken over information publishing and it has replaced coaches and mentors.

So in my head the way I’m seeing it now is that the internet world is basically going to be focusing on offline subjects, Industries, and niches that AI cannot necessarily help with.

AI can tell you how to tile a bathroom but it cannot yet SHOW you how to tile a bathroom.

So the future will be people creating videos, newsletters, and communities around subjects and interests where you need to use tools, equipment, and machinery which AI can not yet show you.

That is where I think online business is heading.

Take music for example, there are people who can show you how to use musical instruments and musical software, whereas AI can’t do that yet.

It can probably tell you how to hold drumsticks and hit a beat but it can’t show you how to play the drums…yet.

So the future is going to be building an online business around an offline industry, subject, or niche

You are then going to monetize that business with newsletters, email marketing, and possibly sell some form of digital products, maybe from a revenue share on channels such as YouTube.

You can also make money through paid communities using platforms like Patreon or Skool.

Podcasts, YouTube channels, and Skool communities should be your focus from today.

Until next time.

Have a great day.
