Could A Pile Of Free Pallet Wood Lead To A Successful Online Business?

If you have been a regular reader of anything I have published recently you will know that I am having a bit of a crisis at the moment.

The online world is changing so fast that I believe the internet marketing world is dying.

I plan to have multiple digital products selling online, but there is a part of me which wonders if there is any point to it now that AI can do everything when it comes to telling people how to do something

AI will soon have information publishing stitched up. It is already starting to dominate the industry.

The World According To... is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

AI summaries and search results have already killed off traditional blogging.

Platforms which hosted great writers are now being swamped with AI generated slop.

Today I watched a video where a guy explained how AI has basically robbed him of his writing income.

I also watched a video where a guy talked about how AI can create a mobile phone app by simply ‘telling it’ what you want.

Basically, it was suggesting that you use AI and not a coder or developer.

More and more people are losing paid work to AI, and that is what is happening online right now.

AI is changing internet marketing to the point that it is not going to exist the way it has for the last two to three decades.

I find it all a little depressing and I am often wondering if now is the time to throw the towel in.

I really have lost the love for many aspects of internet marketing at the moment.

However…

This Excites Me A Lot!

The one thing that excites me is using social media and online tools to build an online business around an offline subject.

I am currently working on one such business focusing on renovation property in Portugal, and this weekend I got the idea for another.

My good lady has just started buying vintage, rare and, pre-loved items to sell online for a profit.

She sources items from charity shops and either sells them on their own, or she groups a few items together to make gift sets.

She’s also an artist and likes recycled and upcycled items.

With me being a carpenter, I have created furniture and art out of old pallet wood and scaffold boards.

Here’s a few of examples of our previous work.

Recently, I was given a large amount of free pallet wood and so I spent a couple of hours in the garage working on a few products to sell such as these single wall candle holders.

While I was making them, an idea hit me like a tonne of bricks.

Why don’t I film myself making these items and document the whole process and create a series of videos for social media?

This would be a great way to build a following of people who I could then potentially send over to the online store where we will be selling these items.

Like cooking, craft videos are popular online.

People love to see how to make things.

Then I had another idea, people love following challenges.

People love to see what other people do.

With a challenge, people want to see if you achieve it or not.

They want to see if it is possible and whether they could do the same.

And so I came up with…

The £1,000 Profit From Free Pallet Wood Challenge!

The idea is that I take this free pallet wood and I make £1,000 profit from it.

As I’m British and will be selling mostly to people here in Britain, I went with £1,000, which is around $1,318 at the time of writing.

I may swap the idea to $1,000 if I do decide to document the challenge online.

Perhaps I may go with a $1,500 profit target.

So, the plan is to create items out of the pallet wood to sell and generate at least £1,000 in profit.

Items such as book ends, shelves, candle holders, pallet art, etc.

This would make a great video series on Instagram and TikTok.

I have spent around £35 on screws and sandpaper and I expect to spend approximately £30 more on wax and wall fixings.

This will be accounted for as part of the challenge.

Everything else that I use will be the pallet wood and my own hand tools.

So, the challenge is to make £1,000 profit from this FREE pallet wood and to also document it all to be shared online to build a following.

This then had me thinking…

A Paid Community?

Could I create an online paid community around the subject of creating items to sell out of free or cheap wood such as pallets, scaffoldboards, and old furniture?

Would people pay me $5 or $10 per month to learn more?

I even came up with a ‘working title’ for the community ‘Pallet Profits: Pay Your Monthly Living Costs with Free Pallet Wood’

I may use Upcycle or Recycle in the name as they are two keywords loved by a large community.

I am busy with a couple of projects at the moment, but this idea did excite me quite a bit.

And because I believe that AI is killing off a lot of ‘internet marketing’ and ‘information publishing’, I think focusing on an Offline Online Hybrid Business which relies heavily on video, imagery, and real world personal experience of an offline subject, it might be worth investing some time exploring it.

I only need 1,000 people or less to pay me a small monthly fee to make a decent income from this, and if I use the right angle when entering the market I see no reason as to why I can’t find a large enough audience.

I’m kinda curious to know what you think… is this a good idea or not?

Until next time.

Have a great day.

Andi
