Thank you to everyone who tuned into this conversation with Rachel Kramer Bussel, Editor-in-Chief of Open Secrets Magazine! It was an incredible opportunity to delve more deeply into my experiences with anorexia and bulimia at 54 years old, my recovery journey, the cultural, familial, and political forces that contribute to eating disorders in the US, and the anthology I am editing of women’s stories, poems, and illustrations about eating disorders in midlife.
I also appreciated the chance to speak more about the role of writing as a tool for healing from traumatic experiences!
I’ll do my best to share individual clips as well because this is a long video. I am consistently amazed and grateful for the chance to connect with other women who have experiences with eating disorders as adults, and have heard from so many of you since my essay was published and we did this live video Q&A.
It can be cathartic, terrifying, and empowering to share some of the most vulnerable parts of ourselves with others through our art. But I know it helps set us free. I am so grateful to the women who contributed to the anthology I am editing, and I can’t wait to share it with the world. If you have a story about your eating disorder experience in midlife, please feel free to reach out to me. You are not alone.
