Nova Reid quotes actress Cynthia Erivo on claiming power: We want the agreeable version of (the) powerful (woman). The version that smiles when offended, says nothing when she disagrees and endures quietly when she doesn’t want to.
Her implication is, support the powerful woman inside you and around you, don’t kick her to the curb. Especially now.

One powerful woman who steadily teaches me through her actions and words is author and activist Robin Wall Kimmerer. Her non-profit Plant Baby Plant seeks to restore the land and re-story our relationships: Raise a Garden and Raise a Ruckus. Working with community gardeners across the country, she highlights the power of earth-based actions. She was with Sankofa Community Farm recently at Bartram’s Gardenwhich offers free open access to growing spaces in the center of Philadelphia. If you want to get a jumpstart on Juneteenth, celebrate there this coming Sunday June 14th.
