What an absolutely positively thrilling afternoon. Thank you to everyone who was a part of it!
I am so happy and honored to say we had a positively packed house at today’s subscriber town hall webinar, and I’m so grateful to every single wonderful person who took time out of their day to join me. ❤️
These sessions are intentionally casual, interactive, and unscripted—which means we get to talk about the questions you’re actually dealing with right now.
Today’s conversation covered everything from:
• Preferred pitch lead time
• Subject lines that actually get opened (and how to make your very first sentence count)
• Why great images help—but won’t save a weak pitch
• When exclusives are worth pursuing (and when they really aren’t)
• Pitch structure, length, and timing
• Desk-side meetings — they’re still very much a thing, but they look a little different these days.
• Event planning (including mixing journalists and influencers)
• Embargoes, exclusives, and holiday pitching timelines
• Editorial priorities and what moves a story to the top of the list
• Emerging categories, trends...and so much more.
The best part? Every town hall I host ends up going somewhere I never expect because your questions spark conversations that help everyone in the room.

The Zoom had barely ended before these messages started coming in:
💛 “Thank you so much for hosting the town hall. That was my first time attending and I loved it. Everyone is so nice. I really appreciate your time and your positive, easy-going energy while still being super informative and incredibly knowledgeable!”
💛 “What a wonderful Zoom call and a really terrific group! I really appreciate that you do these calls to support the industry. We all know how busy you are with multiple stories and events in play. I was so grateful for the advice you—and the generous PR pros on the call—provided.”
💛 “Thank you so much for letting me join today, it was so helpful and informative.”
Thank you all for making these conversations so thoughtful, generous, and collaborative. I genuinely believe we all get better when we share what we’re learning.
My goal, in doing a daily newsletter, is to help our community with what to do. But in doing these open-format town halls, it is my hope to give everyone a chance to ask “Okay...but what about my situation?”
I have no desire to stand in front of a PowerPoint talking at people for an hour. That’s not who I am, and I know you all well enough to know that’s not what you want. See it more as office hours with a room full of people who actually does this work every day.
Missed this one? Don’t worry—we’ll be doing another Town Hall very soon, and I’d love to see you there. And, maybe we can make it even bigger next time. But this one was pretty perfect.
And if you want to catch the whole recording right now, it’s available below right now as an exclusive subscriber benefit!
