The Raven Dreams: Book One
Chapter 32: Eva
Eva hadn’t missed a sunrise since arriving back in Amortera.
This morning was calm, and there were only a few scattered white clouds in the sky. Even months later, and despite the quiet that now surrounded her, Eva found it hard to relax without the urge to look over her shoulder for a threat. It had become clear life would never return to the way it used to be.
When Eva returned home after the war, she’d passed through the passage from one collapsed world to another. All the vegetation, the forests, the river, and most of the homes were demolished.
The Tree of Gathering was torn apart. Slowly, Vitalists were healing the tree until she could sustain herself and grow back into her full expression.
Eva’s mind wandered to Talvy as she stared out the kitchen window. She missed her. Isaak’s recount of what happened while she was away still echoed in her mind every day. She hadn’t done enough. Too many Vitalists were gone.
