The Raven Dreams: Book One
Chapter 16: Eva
The black clouds hung low over the mountains, creating a constant, heavy mist for Eva and her captors to navigate through. At this altitude, she felt dizzy and unbalanced. Her leg worsened by the day, the wound festering and sapping her strength with every labored step. Myrna’s offer to find treatment for Eva’s injury had fallen empty.
Up here, in these barren, craggy cliffs, there was little to offer. The past couple of weeks, trudging through these unforgiving slopes, Eva had become accustomed to the shivers that rattled her to the bone. Whether awake or asleep, it never stopped. The only thing that kept her alive, she knew, was the feeble Meditation sessions each morning.
Even still, Eva wondered if the land itself wasn’t making her sick in a different kind of way. A hollow feeling grew in her chest, and she couldn’t shake the sensation of emptiness that threatened to overpower her.
