from the far corners of my mind

i hear a thunderstorm calling

from the far corners of my mind

a rumbling of something ancient

approaching the here and now

.. .. ..

i feel the fear

the mind-bending collapse

a projection of nightmares

mine, theirs, everybody’s

play in front of me eyes

.. .. ..

and i sit here and wait

for the rumbling to grow louder

for the rain to gush

the collective sadness

carried heavily in the bellies

of dying clouds

.. .. ..

i’ll sit here and wait

for the storm to reach me

for the lightning to strike places

where I’ve grasped and attached

to cut through old stories

weaved through old lies

to burn away the calluses

between me and my skin

.. .. ..

i’ll just sit here and wait

for my very own judgment day

.. .. ..

I wrote this piece a day before a storm hit the area where I live. The thunder made its way to my bones. These are the moments that change everything. I spent the last few days in my room, feeling the soft embrace of loneliness. I no longer want to fight this feeling; I no longer want to fight myself.

May we all make it through the storm, and into the bright and shiny mornings of the next moment.

Much love,
Zulfa
