Alimo Studio Notes #65 | July Drop 05: Walking in NYC

Hey friends!

How’s everyone doing? Where was I last week? You missed your weekly post!, haha ya I know, but it’s okay. I actually sat down last Friday, drafted up an empty screen as I didn’t have a whole lot to share or update, so I ended up taking back some time to focus on other tasks at hand. Full transparency, I haven’t missed a post in over a year, I was kind of tripping on what to write about. When there wasn’t really anything, I took a step back and said to myself, ‘it’s okay’.

Anyways, what a fun week of painting. I got back into the groove of things in preparation for our upcoming July Drop 05. This releases on Sunday 26th at 12 pm ET. Slightly earlier than our typical schedule, but I’m leaving for a surf trip on the 28th and adjusted this a few days earlier.

This month’s theme centers around walking.

It was a funny thing I noticed as I was observing people here in NYC. Everyone is moving, everyone is going somewhere. Either they are on their own, taking a Zoom call on the move, or simply pondering. If with friends, they’re chatting it up while walking mega fast. It was really interesting for me, and I feel this theme will pop up again the more I deep dive into it. All I can say is it was a blast people watching here in the city. Excited to share some finished paintings, along with some studies from my sketchbook.

Along with painting, I’m gearing up to drop a few t-shirts to the shop. Got samples back and they are looking real fresh. Stay tuned.

And finally... Indonesia.

On July 28, I’m heading back with a group of close friends for a surf trip we’ve been planning for nearly two years. We did this trip together a couple of years ago, and we’ve all been counting down to doing it again.

I’ll be surfing, painting, and filling sketchbooks the whole time. After spending the past few months surrounded by concrete, I’m more than ready to trade city blocks for warm water and tropical colors.

This month's drop includes a mix of fully realized studio paintings and sketchbook studies, offering both finished works and a glimpse into my creative process.

The collection will be open for 48 hours only. Once the window closes, the drop ends, and any remaining paintings move into the archive.
