Alimo Studio Notes #51 [ April is here + new work]

Hey friends!

Happy Friday, April is here, wahoo! Been a fun week on my end. Lots of focus on painting and exploring new angles and scenes for my upcoming show. It’s been cool to peel back the onion layer on this conceptual thinking of what Japan is for me. What these moments in between are and what or how it can bring on this nostalgic feeling of past, present, and future moments. I’m loving it, along with big challenges of getting my ideas onto canvas. I added a few new ones from this week below. Let me know what you think.

On top of painting, we did our second Open Studios - March drop. This has been such a great experience for me. I have a lot of paintings that I share online, but I don’t ever release to purchase. This new 48-hour format each month has been a great way for me to get this out in the wild. Thank you to everyone who collected this last drop. I’m looking forward to the April drop as well.

Lastly, the city is starting to wake up. I went to super fun Moments Gallery opening last night, saw so many friends, and beautiful art. So much fun seeing everyone as we’ve all be hybernating or traveling. It felt like the kickoff for art events for the Summer. Lesss gooo.

Let’s dive into it!

Below are a few new paintings for the week. I’ve been focusing on 16x20” in. canvas. While I prefer big paintings, these have been a great exercise and since these will be going to Japan, I have to think small as I have to travel with these out to the show.

These new works are loose, groovy, and fast. Meaning each brushstroke is intentional as the paint dries mega fast, so I think somewhat ahead, while keeping it loose. Loving these so far.

Since launch, I’ve continued to add more work onto the site, as well as upcoming exhibitions, projects, and general paintings. If you haven’t checked it out yet, take a look!

More painting. I’m in full tunnel vision, getting 6-8 hours a day painting. It’s kind of mental in one form, and so great at the same time. It’s really pushing my creative practice. While challenging at times, I’m trusting the process. The goal is to keep making and curating my favorite pieces for the show.
