Alimo Studio Notes #52 [ Greenroom Festival 26' T-shirt pre-order, New Paintings + it's Springtime!]

Hey friends!

Time be flying am I right? I’ve been so focused on painting that the days are truly going by faster than I imagine. There have been days when I look up at the clock, and it’s 4 pm (started at 8:30 am). Wild! I’ve had some incredible painting sessions this week. Some frustrating ones mid-way, then pushing through to get things where I want them.

I’ve found that when a painting isn’t cooperating, I have to pause and walk away. Other times, I push through to finish it. It makes things interesting because I mix colors on the fly, so getting those colors exact again really isn’t a thing. I mean, I can get close, but really not possible. When I put a painting away for the day to work the following morning, I’ve found it brings a new set of eyes…and color. One that brought in a new set of eyes was a painting below, where the two surfers are walking to the beach. I had some struggles with the color palette so when I came to it the next day, these funny, subtle colors popped and made the painting complete. Those moments are really fun for me.

So far, I have 8 paintings done. My goal is 10-12 for the show. I’ll keep painting and see what forms out of it.

Besides painting, I had a couple of great meetings for future work and got turned down from a few other bigger projects. Projects I really wanted and put a lot of time into. Got into the final round, but they went another direction at the last minute, which is tough. The rollercoaster of living a dream :)

On a win, the Greenroom Festival t-shirt I designed is now available for pre-order. The shirt looks super sick. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on these.

Health-wise, I got myself an Oura ring to deep dive into my sleep patterns. I’ve had it for a few days, and the results are cool. I think I sleep, but apparently I don’t. Lol.

I finished up three new paintings this week. I’ve been getting really groovy with trees, getting loose, and seeing how they form. These abstract shapes have pushed my practice in a wild way. The prior trees I’ve drawn are blocky, breaking them up with my linework. This evolution uses similar traits, mixed with texture, and a familiar shape that gives depth. It’s so fun seeing bringing in my sketchbook vibes into my final practice.

Excited to get some warmer temps in the horizon. We’ve had some funny up and down weather, but blue skies are here bay-bee.
