Did I Make a Mistake Moving to France?

I was quite smug when we left the Netherlands. Watching our final boxes make their way down the external lift and into the moving van, I let out a sigh of relief. I’d made no secret of the fact that Amsterdam was not my ideal city, and I was all too ready to leave, ready for something different, ready for more sun!

When we found out I was losing my job, and along with it our Dutch residence permits, Mehmet and I agonized for months about what to do next. We knew we wanted to stay in Europe, but weren’t sure where, or how. I won’t go into detail because I’ve written about those decisions at length already. We eventually settled on Nice, France. But lately, I can’t help but wonder if we made the wrong choice.

So much about our life in Nice has not been what I expected.
