Drivin N Cryin recently released Crushing Flowers, their first studio album since 2019’s Live The Love Beautiful. Frontman/songwriter Kevn Kinney is a writer’s writer loved and admired by his peers. He is joined in DNC by bassist Tim Nielsen (and drummer Dave V. Johnson and a steady stream of killer guitarists. The band has toured with the some of rock’s best guitarists guesting over the years, including Peter Stroud (Sheryl Crow), Warner E. Hodges (Jason & The Scorchers), Aaron Lee Tasjan, Sadler Vaden (Jason Isbell) and Laur Joamets (Sturgill Simpson). They are on the road now and will be throughout the summer. Tour dates here.

Nearly 40 years in, Drivin N Cryin remains a living, breathing American rock band — not a revival act, not a footnote, but a continuing story still being written.. Coming from the same golden era of college radio rock that birthed fellow Georgia bands R.E.M., Indigo Girls, Black Crowes and more, the band and their frontman Kevn Kinney — a songwriter’s songwriter — still have plenty to say. Brothers and Sisters: the Allman Brothers Band and The Album That Defined The 70s was my third straight book to debut in the New York Times Non-Fiction Hardcover Bestsellers List, following Texas Flood: The Inside Story of Stevie Ray Vaughan and One Way Out: The Inside History of the Allman Brothers Band. My first book was Big in China: My Unlikely Adventures Raising a Family, Playing the Blues and Becoming a Star in Beijing, about my experiences raising a family in Beijing and touring China with a popular original blues band. It was optioned for a movie by Ivan Reitman’s Montecito Productions. I am also a guitarist and singer who fronts two bands, Big in China and Friends of the Brothers, the premier celebration of the Allman Brothers Band.
