Since July 21st 2026, all Substack posts and notes (100 chars min and no videos as of this writing) are now scanned through the Pangram engine to score how much of it was likely written by hand or with AI assistance.

Read Substack’s CEO Chris Best‘s article to understand the rational behind this approach from the source. It’s a MUST read article if you are interested in this subject.

As clicking every time on the 3 dots to check each post and note annoyed me quite a bit I decided to develop a super simple chrome extension (you can install it easily on your browser ) that would show for each post and note a small popup with all Pangram score info and details.

If you are a nerd: install manually from this compressed folder.
Expand it and then go to the manage extension on Chrome, enable developer mode, then use Load unpacked.

If you are a not nerd: I have published on the Chrome Extension store as un listed but I am still waiting for approval from google. Will share the link ASAP…

The good thing that I did discover a bit later (my bad) is that you can test your article before publishing to see if what you have done scores in a way that you believe is accurate.

How to access this feature: click continue top right from the edit page, you will see something like this at the bottom of the page.

If you click Scan for AI text you will get the score for what you have written until now, like this below.

You can then go back and edit the text to finish your work.

You can also disable (and re-enable in case) AI detection for your post.

As you may have noticed there is a text that is personal to my account A guy with a scarf that explains my approach to using AI for this type of content.

How do you create / edit that? t’s in teh same window if you have not created it yet or you can then subsequently edit with the 3 dots menu.
