What we have been up to lately

In October, Alex visited the pavilion “A Fragile Correspondence,” the Scotland+Venice collateral partnership event for the Architecture Biennale. The exhibit explores different perspectives and approaches to climate challenges through the lens of language and Scottish landscapes. Alex was inspired by the use of language to take images and sound recordings deeper. In particular, she found the vocabulary posters fascinating, as they triggered introspective questions and reflections. The exhibit closes on November 26th, so there is still some time to check it out. 💡

Gosia was a jury member at Climathon Venezia, organised by Venice Calls. It was an inspiring experience to learn about the projects addressing the climate-related challenges of Venetian Lagoon created by Italian and international students.

Alex: For those of you working in the climate space, I wholeheartedly recommend checking out these resources on fostering emotional resilience, written by Lilli Graf. Working to address climate and social challenges and sometimes feeling the pressure of these often complex tasks can bring about difficult emotions. As Lilli says, “For those who can afford to take care of themselves and others, fostering emotional resilience becomes an act of climate action.” and she provides some great tips! And while you’re at it, if you are a freelancer or thinking about starting to work for yourself, you might enjoy her newsletter - I find it extremely helpful and insightful.📬

Gosia: I recently started digging into carbon credits and their contribution to fighting climate change, and I was blown away. Not in a positive way. While I generally aim to share inspiring resources, it’s also important to know what is not working as we would imagine it to. For anyone who is interested in the topic and a bit nerdy about data, I recommend you read the report by the Guardian and researchers from Corporate Accountability, a corporate watchdog that shows how top carbon offset projects may not cut planet-heating emissions and why. ⛽

Cosa abbiamo fatto di recente

In ottobre, Alex ha visitato il padiglione "A Fragile Correspondence", l'evento collaterale di Scozia+Venezia per la Biennale di Architettura. La mostra esplora diverse prospettive e approcci alle sfide climatiche attraverso la lente del linguaggio e dei paesaggi scozzesi. Alex si è ispirata all'uso del linguaggio per approfondire le immagini e le registrazioni sonore. In particolare, ha trovato affascinanti i manifesti vocali, che hanno suscitato domande e riflessioni introspettive. La mostra chiude il 26 novembre, quindi c'è ancora tempo per visitarla. 💡

Gosia è stata membro della giuria del Climathon Venezia, organizzato da Venice Calls. È stata un'esperienza stimolante conoscere i progetti creati da studenti italiani e internazionali per affrontare le sfide climatiche della Laguna di Venezia.

Alex: Per chi lavora nel settore del clima, consiglio vivamente di consultare queste risorse sulla promozione della resilienza emotiva, scritte da Lilli Graf. Lavorare per affrontare le sfide climatiche e sociali e talvolta sentire la pressione di questi compiti spesso complessi può generare emozioni difficili. Come dice Lilli, "per coloro che possono permettersi di prendersi cura di se stessi e degli altri, promuovere la resilienza emotiva diventa un atto di azione per il clima" e fornisce alcuni ottimi consigli! E già che ci siete, se siete freelance o state pensando di iniziare a lavorare per conto vostro, potreste apprezzare la sua newsletter: io la trovo estremamente utile e perspicace 📬.

Gosia: Di recente ho iniziato a indagare sui crediti di carbonio e sul loro contributo alla lotta contro il cambiamento climatico e sono rimasta sbalordita. Non in modo positivo. Sebbene in genere mi proponga di condividere risorse stimolanti, è anche importante sapere cosa non funziona come ci immaginiamo. A chiunque sia interessato all'argomento e sia un po' nerd in fatto di dati, consiglio di leggere il rapporto del Guardian e dei ricercatori di Corporate Accountability, un organo di controllo aziendale che mostra come i principali progetti di compensazione delle emissioni di anidride carbonica potrebbero non ridurre le emissioni di riscaldamento del pianeta e perché. ⛽
