A Dance of Breath for Us All...

My daily practice involves a commitment to roll out my mat and completely follow my intuition. There is no amount of pressure I place on this. The time is sacred. My mat has become my deepest space of healing after an autoimmune condition body snatched me years ago and all movement was stripped from my being.

I take nothing for granted now.

For months at a time, my only dance was my breath. And I found a most reliable resource inside. I give this part of me my complete attention every day. It’s my prayer of gratitude.

What I CAN do is a completely different perspective than what I can’t. My daily practice explores exactly this.

My deep studies of technique are the very reason I can pull from so much “material”. All that I have studied and taught over the past decades of my life are here, available for me to implement.

And the more I truly know and understand these tools ~ the more I can break the rules!

This is my very essence. I am a rebel heart. I revere education aimed at self mastery. And I have found the way IN is to dive deeply into the technique and then wield it into my own dance.

Everyone has time to dance for 10 minutes.

Recently, I was exhausted, returning home from travel. So rolling out my mat looked like 10 minutes of freedom in motion and then longer silent meditation.

Tomorrow it could be a 90 minute power vinyasa with some kickboxing (I am obsessed).

My breath and my heartbeat know exactly what I need. I just listen. And move from here.

For more than 20 years I have taught movement. The need to self practice what we preach is at the core of my being. And when my life fell away to illness, all that was there to catch me was myself and my practices.

If I can lie on my back for months at a time with only my breath, I could also dance in my own head. My mind- a wild adventure of shapes and twirls, expansive and unlimited. I danced this way through hell.

While I am grateful for my daily intuitive dance, living in a quiet, remote place to regain my health also makes me dearly miss the years of dance in community. My classes were enormous and I orchestrated 100s of entire events around dance. As choreography, as meditation, as a way to process grief…just like my ancestors always did.

I want to be the ancestor that leaves behind rhythm, light and breath as a direct connection to love. A sacred rebellion that begins within and only creates more love without.

We all have a heartbeat. We have always been dancing

So, I am committing to some exploration of video. Not for perfection or my own app. But for the part of me that is a little dead inside when I don’t get to dance in community.

This is what I CAN do to dance with you all for now.

Of course, I have ways we still gather in person. This is of utmost importance to me as well. It’s just not every day like it used to be.

I don’t grip to that. I see what is now. This is now. Please feel free to dance with me.

My very imperfect videos come intuitively as well. I just turn the camera on at times the energy aligns. Living in a developing country I am up against all sorts of obstacles for this. Hence, the rebel soul. I do it anyway. And I know that if it’s meant to get to you, the ethos will allow it all to travel through and find a way. Ha! So fun.

A little about this video ~

As I began my practice here I simply asked spirit to move me through the elements and energies that are called to balance today.

What is best for me in this skin and bones, right here, right now?

It became an exploration of the very mechanics of breath. We just expand and contract for a while. Anyone can do this, right!? Our breath is doing it all the time.

What happens when we give even more freedom of choice. There are infinite ways we may create shapes in order to embody even more expansion and contraction.

Next, I moved into that part of me that loves to stick the beat. My body went into using spirals (ie - rocking around in circles on the edges of the feet) to ignite each chakra, ground to sky. And did it in a sort of rhythmic vibe. It was a blast.

***This middle part gains some momentum. If it’s faster than you are feeling, just rock it out and let my voice gooooo. And you can always repeat or go back - the power of video. Its really about just following what your soul wants to do.

Ultimately the motions throughout mimic expansion of the torso with qi gong style twisting …which allows our trunk to grow more space …which allows our breaths to become more full.

As the movement crescendoed it came in strongly that I was headed toward a metal mudra healing as a final healing.

I find I often end up nourishing more metal as a prayer in motion. The element of metal is skin, lungs and small intestine. My whole autoimmune expresses through skin activation and histamine rashes that create fevers and a loss of breath.

I work with metal a lot!

Beautifully, the energetic mudra we do here offers a channel to our metal element to just balance. We don’t name it. We don’t get heady. We move with our energy and our energy balances.

Balanced metal opens perspective and allows us to see all potential. Literally it shows life is hard when we only peer through a small window. Our metal opens the skies to show us the entire universe is available. I offer the words to explain this as we move through the movement within the practice.

Metal is the element that allows us to let go. Release with ease. It’s the structure of our very bodies holding us up. And our ability to focus, problem solve and remain calm.

When we realize the whole universe exists right here between our palms, we intrinsically appreciate and then we allow it to be. This is metal in elemental qi gong and intuitive dance.

Ok! No more spoilers. Have fun. Let me know how it goes !

Hugs,

Adge
