As an integrative holistic practitioner of 20+ years, I’ve spent a lot of time researching supplements, reading labels, and sorting through marketing claims.
Most of it blends together after a while. Different names, similar promises, and very little clarity around what actually matters.
Acemannan did not fall into that category.
When I started digging into it, I did not find hype. I found a molecule with a documented history and a lineage of products that most people have never had explained to them in plain language.
A new product called VeraCell recently entered this space, and with it came a wave of marketing claims and a video that is being widely circulated making comparisons that deserve a closer look. The education around acemannan is getting buried under the launch noise, and you deserve the full picture before you make a decision.
If you are here because you are researching acemannan products before buying, that instinct is worth following. Not all acemannan supplements are equal. The differences are measurable, documented, and they affect what a product can realistically do once it is inside your body.
Before We Dive In
If acemannan is new to you, or you just need a refresher, this section is the context the rest of the article depends on.
Your immune system has a cleanup crew. These are macrophages. Their job is to identify threats, clear debris, and communicate with the rest of your immune system about what needs to happen next.
Acemannan, a compound found in aloe vera, has been studied for decades for how it interacts with those cells and how it influences that communication process.
There are also two variables that determine whether any acemannan product will actually work.
The first is stability. Acemannan is fragile and begins breaking down within about 24 hours of harvest. That means most aloe products on the market contain little to no active acemannan by the time they’re consumed.
The second is size. Acemannan molecules exist in a range of sizes, and only a specific range can effectively interact with immune cells. That range is referred to as immune-optimizing fractions, or IOF. It matters just as much as total acemannan content, sometimes more.
Keep those two variables in mind as you read through the rest of this.
Acemannan Goes to Market
In 1983, Carrington Laboratories changed the future of immune health with the discovery of acemannan. They spent over $100 million stabilizing acemannan, preserving it in a form the body could actually use, and earned more than 130 patents worldwide in the process.
Acemannan was on track to become a pharmaceutical drug. The FDA ultimately determined it did not alter human physiology, it optimized it. That distinction pulled it out of the drug category and into the supplement space, but the research that built the case for it never went away. Carrington Labs needed the right person to bring it to market. They called on Sam Caster.
Sam founded MannaTech and brought Carrington's stabilized acemannan technology to market under the name Manapol in 1993. It carried 12.7% total acemannan and approximately 4% immune-optimizing fractions.
The Glyconutrient Era
Sam went on to formulate Ambrotose, expanding on the Manapol foundation. He paired stabilized acemannan with what he called glyconutrients, the eight sugars involved in cell-to-cell communication.
Sam coined the term “glyconutrients” before glycobiology became a recognized field of science.
Ambrotose maintained the Manapol standard of 12.7% total acemannan and 4% immune-optimizing fractions, and became one of the most commercially successful supplements of its era.
That could have been the end of the story.
A Life Changing Pivot
Sam had seen enough of the research to know what acemannan could do, and as an adoptive father of five, he had seen enough of the world to know who needed it most. He founded MannaRelief while he was still at MannaTech, with one purpose: getting acemannan into the bodies of the children who needed it most.
Seven million children die every year from being immunocompromised. Sam is a brilliant businessman, but traditional fundraising had a ceiling he kept hitting. When he discovered the social business model, he knew exactly what he wanted to do with it: implement a buy one, give one directly inside MannaTech.
MannaTech was publicly traded, and publicly traded companies protect their bottom line first. Sam was not going to change their minds. So, he resigned.
In 2015, the exclusive rights to the highest-grade acemannan ever developed were donated to MannaRelief.
In 2020, MannaRelief founded Alovea, a Buy 1, Give 1 social business. This would make this highest grade of acemananan available to the public while providing a sustainable supply of that same product available to the world’s most medically fragile children through MannaRelief.
The acemannan available at Alovea is not available to any other company on the market. It belongs to a nonprofit whose entire reason for existing is to get it to children who are dying without it.
Where Sam’s Research Led
Alovea was built around a clear mission and a single molecule, and the first expression of that was Immun.
Immun is acemannan delivered at the highest concentration currently available per serving. It can be used daily as a standalone foundation, while also providing the kind of dosing the body can draw on when immune demand increases.
CORE hit the market in 2024. After decades of working with acemannan, bringing Manapol to market, formulating Ambrotose, and helping shape the glyconutrient conversation, Sam created CORE. It includes acemannan alongside the other seven glyconutrients, and goes further than any of his previous formulas by addressing the gut as a complete system.
The acemannan in CORE contains 22% total acemannan and 18% immune-optimizing fractions. Ambrotose contained 12.7% and 4%.
The rest of the formula reflects something Sam had come to understand by the time he developed CORE that wasn’t yet clear when Ambrotose was created: a compromised gut often needs more than glyconutrients alone.
The gut is where nutrients are absorbed, immune responses are initiated, hormones are metabolized, and a meaningful portion of neurotransmitter production occurs, including serotonin. A product built only around polysaccharides addresses one layer of that system. CORE was carefully formulated to address the full sequence.
CORE is an advanced gut health complex that includes:
Alovea AE — the highest-grade acemannan available that powerfully activates immune modulation and repairs the gut lining.
Advanced XOS Oligosaccharide — a prebiotic fiber that selectively nourishes beneficial gut bacteria, promotes short-chain fatty acid production, and supports a balanced microbiome without feeding harmful strains
Modified Citrus Pectin — binds to heavy metals and mold toxins in the digestive tract, supporting clearance before they can recirculate
Lactoferrin — strengthens the gut barrier, regulates microbial balance, and supports serotonin production
Bioactive Colostrum — a concentrated source of glyconutrients that supports immune intelligence, helping the body recognize threats, regulate response, and repair tissue at the cellular level
Collagen — rebuilds and reinforces the gut lining, supports tissue repair, and provides the structural foundation the rest of the formula depends on
Acacia Gum — a soluble prebiotic fiber that feeds beneficial gut bacteria, supports regularity, and helps maintain a stable microbiome environment
Arabinogalactan — stimulates beneficial gut bacteria, supports immune cell activity, and enhances the body’s natural defense response
Soluble Oat Fiber (70% Beta Glucan) — one of the most researched prebiotic fibers available, supports immune modulation, helps regulate blood sugar, and feeds the microbiome without disrupting microbial balance
Beet Root Extract (Betalains) — reduces oxidative stress and inflammation and improves circulation to gut tissue at the cellular level
New Zealand Pine Bark Extract — antioxidant protection and supports nitric oxide production for blood flow
A true gut health complex that seals the barrier, calms immune overreaction, clears the toxic load, feeds the microbiome, and supports absorption. Each layer enables the next.
That sequence is what most gut products never get to.
A New Product Enters the Story: An Upgrade with Limits
When Ambrotose’s patent expired in 2025, Marketplace Global copied the formula and created VeraCell. They kept the original glyconutrient framework and introduced a newer-generation acemannan with a higher concentration than what was used in Ambrotose, roughly 3.5-4 times greater.
The improvement to VeraCell is real and worth acknowledging, but what it did not do is expand the scope of what the product addresses. The gut lining, immune environment, toxin clearance, and microbial balance are a different problem entirely, and this formula does not go there.
To be clear: Sam Caster did not formulate VeraCell. Marketplace Global has generously offered to donate to MannaRelief, and that is the only thread connecting him to the company.
A Different Tool for a Different Job
There is also a video circulating that compares VeraCell to Alovea’s Immun, claiming VeraCell is superior because it contains all eight saccharides required by your cells while Immun contains only one. Neither of those claims are true, and I want to give you the full picture before those claims shape your decision.
Acemannan is a molecule the body uses on an ongoing basis. It supports immune communication as part of normal daily function.
What changes between products is not the molecule, but how it is delivered.
Immun provides acemannan at the highest concentration available in a single serving. It can be used daily, while also providing the kind of dosing the body can draw on when the immune system is under more pressure.
CORE was formulated as a daily foundation. It pairs high-grade acemannan with a full gut restoration system, formulated for consistent, long-term use.
These products are not in competition. They serve different roles within the same framework. A more accurate comparison to VeraCell is CORE, since both are positioned for daily use. Placing VeraCell next to Immun blurs that distinction and shifts the conversation away from what most people are actually trying to evaluate when they are looking for everyday acemannan and/or gut support.
Side-by-Side Comparison of CORE and VeraCell
The table below compares the two products across key formulation variables.
CORE’s acemannan is approximately 20% higher in both total acemannan and immune-optimizing fractions than VeraCell, and contains more immune-modulating fractions than any other product currently on the market.
This matters for a practical reason. A product can look strong on paper and still fall short if the amounts do not create a meaningful biological response. Volume is not everything, but it is a foundational variable when evaluating what a supplement can realistically do.
Cost Per Serving in Context
VeraCell costs $2.15 per serving. CORE costs $2.50 per serving on Flexship. At face value, VeraCell is less expensive.
Measured by bioactive material delivered per dollar, the comparison shifts. CORE provides more than three times the total bioactive content per serving, a higher-grade acemannan with substantially more immune-optimizing fractions, and a full gut restoration system that VeraCell does not include.
The 35-cent daily difference is the cost of that added scope.
A Conversation With Sam Caster
I had the chance to sit down with Sam directly. We covered the full arc: how the research has evolved over decades, what separates acemannan products that work from ones that do not, and the specific decisions that went into formulating CORE.
Watch it below.
Note: This video was recorded before VeraCell hit the market. The details in the article give a more appropriate comparison than the one given in the video.
Bottom Line
Twenty years of sorting through this industry has shown me that most people are choosing between products they don’t fully understand. That’s not where you are anymore.
And for those who care about where their choices land, this is one of the few companies where every purchase reaches beyond the person taking it with the Buy 1, Give 1 model.
