The 3 NPS campgrounds, not on ‘Isle au Haut’, viz., ‘Blackwoods’, ‘Seawall’ & ‘Schoodic Woods’, are currently open & functioning as if there is NO Shutdown. So, right now these campgrounds are FULL, busy & have some staffing. So squatters won’t stand much chance because space will be limited & there will be FEE-PAYING customers who will take umbrage to squatters trying to muscle into THEIR space.

But, this will start changing as of now — especially next week.

Seawall & Schoodic Woods closed two days ago.

Blackwoods will close next Monday.

By the end of the month these campgrounds will be empty.

Unlikely there will be much NPS staff to police them. Plus, as the Shutdown continues we are likely to lose more & more staff. Some, like Air Traffic Controllers already, will start calling in sick.

That is when the problems could start.

We could get some ‘trouble makers’ who invade the campgrounds to make a political statement.

Yes, Acadia is so, so much more compact & accessible than Yosemite. Yes, that makes it easier to ‘police’.

It is also possible that local Sheriff or Police Departments could step in — but I assume only under NPS supervision.

We need to keep an eye on this. Best if it does NOT happen. « fingers crossed »
