Acadia National Park, as I pointed out in this Oct. 11, 2025 post, came to be in 4 steps — three of them at the ‘National’ level.
It started off, om 1916, as ‘Sieur de Monts’ National Monument.
Then just under 3 years later was promoted to be: ‘Lafayette National Park’.
It only became ‘Acadia’ ten years later in 1929.
I know that some of you are going to be convinced that I got this wrong & are going to prove it. Please … by all means. SMILE.
I know that some of you may remember that Lafayette was given some kind of State-level ‘right’ that should have made him a citizen. Yes, that part is right. But, we are now talking about 1919. Was he a citizen in 1919. That, my friend, is the issue at hand.
As for Sieur de Monts there are, indubitably, two red herrings that many of you are sure to chase after. Please do. I have checked them ad nauseum. SMILE.
I stand by my claims. SMILE.
But, I have never claimed to be infallible. SMILE. So, is it possible I got it wrong. Please try. Thanks.
