Meanings: We chose Resistor for the name of this newsletter
The meaning of RESISTOR is a device that has electrical resistance, and that is used in an electric circuit for protection, operation, or current control. We see our job as an opportunity to offer protection to the people who join us. To operate together and to keep the energy flowing to ensure we can stand up to this government.
A resister is one who resists, stands firm against something, refuses compliance, or withstands temptation. A resister may also be a coating that protects a surface during some processes. Related words are resist, resists, resisted, resisting, resistible, resistibility, and resistibly. Resister appears in the late fourteenth century from the Old French word resister, meaning hold out against.
We are both… a resistor that allows the current to connect the dots and one who resists.
AB Resistance believes that ALL Albertans have the right to be informed. If you have events to advertise, please reach out to us either on our Facebook page, our website, or at ABResistance.ca. Cracks are starting to appear. We just need to keep putting on the pressure.

Editor’s Note: Happy two days after Canada Day. Linda (from Linda Walker Writes - a great Substack) and I spent it in Chestermere on the beach.
We met so many happy Canadians and those who want to become Canadians. We had some who did the Citizenship Test, kids both young and old, who celebrated with our free flags and swag! It was wonderful to talk to so many who are saying, “We are staying in Canada.” Our job for the next 3 months is to get out and talk about the other questions with Albertans so they understand what they are asking. They are written in a way that you may agree with one part of it and so vote yes. That’s the answer they are looking for. So we will highlight one question/week - what it is asking and what to consider.
Do you support the Government of Alberta taking increased control over immigration for the purposes of decreasing immigration to more sustainable levels, prioritizing economic migration, and giving Albertans first priority on new employment opportunities?
Immigration is a shared federal-provincial responsibility under the Constitution.
Alberta already helps select immigrants through the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program: In 2024 and early 2025, the AAIP will consider an invitation to apply based on the following priorities:
Accelerated Tech Pathway
Law Enforcement Pathway
priority sectors, such as construction, agriculture, and aviation
https://www.alberta.ca/aaip-alberta-express-entry-stream-eligibility
Population growth contributes to Alberta’s Workforce, Tax Base and Economy
Many sectors including healthcare, agriculture, construction and hospitality rely on Immigrant Workers and students attending our Universities and Colleges.
AISH recipients are being moved on to ADAP if they are under 60 and do not have a PDD diagnosis.
Jason Nixon, the UnFinance Minister, missed filing the annual update.)(Nixon has no background in finance - he was I have had several people point out that the NDP was late in filing the Royalty Review when they were in power. These are two different things. The Finance update lets us know how we are doing financially; it affects all Albertans, no matter where you are. The Royalty update affects us, but not directly. I, for one, want to know how we are doing. Where is our money going? (Jason Nixon was sworn in as the Minister of Finance and President of the Treasury Board on May 21, 2026. He previously served as Minister of Environment and Parks, Government House Leader, Minister of Seniors, Community and Social Services, and Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services.
Prior to his service as an elected official, Mr. Nixon was a successful entrepreneur. He was also an Executive Director at The Mustard Seed, where he spent several years running an addiction treatment facility. A reminder that as Minister of Social Services, Mr. Nixon approved grants for the shelter system while at the same time receiving a pension from the Mustard Seed, which his father started.
He is also the Minister behind forcing AISH recipients onto ADAP, causing undue stress on the disabled community.) IF this is the best the UCP has to offer in overseeing our financial situation, we may be in trouble.

Danielle Smith put forth a proposal for Alberta to build a pipeline - Pembina Pipelines has entered a non-binding agreement, which means if it falls through, you and I are going to be funding this pipeline (we probably are putting in the lion’s share of the money from pension funds as well as money borrowed through ATB (there were several news announcements recently re: having ATB borrow money so they had an $11 billion line of credit.
Trump refuses to extend the CUSMA deal with both Canada and Mexico. It doesn’t expire until 2036 so no need to panic yet.
The portal opened for Albertans to apply for their $100 rebate - it is not going well.
Application portal opens for a $100 rebate check.

July 6th, Monday – No to Condos on Sacred Grounds: “Register to speak remotely or in-person or simply come to City Hall Council Chamber at 9:30am Monday, July 6 to support others speaking about the protection of a sacred site in Rossdale. City Council will vote on what is the “best use” of the area outlined in red. City administration says the best use is condos despite this area being known as a burial site for many different First Nation and Métis peoples and as a very significant historical place. City administration also has future plans to support more development in Rossdale including rezoning the area circled in orange for condos and a developed promenade called Touch the Water from Rossdale past the Groat Road Bridge along the river. By a series of proposals, each building on the one before, city administration has plans to extract our collective ecology, climate resilience, culture, history, and spirit of the North Saskatchewan River watershed for economic gain. Participate on July 6 and prevent the first domino from falling.
Through education, we can protect and honour this area of Rossdale culturally, but we can also protect it legally with options such as an Indigenous-led protected area and as a National Historic Site. On July 6 join the community in saying no to condo developments on this land! For more information: ervcc.com/takeaction“

A special ask from Ali Morrison, host of the Speaker’s Series: If you are or have experienced difficulty in the Health Care system, she would like to document it. (This week, there was the tragic death of a father and husband who sat in the Emergency Room at Grey Nuns Hospital for over 8 hours and died of a heart attack.)
You must know your loss matters. We want to document what is happening in our hospitals and the lives that are being impacted or lost because of the Collapse of Alberta Health. Did you know that Alberta Health is no longer tracking deaths because of wait times to see a doctor, lack of EMS, and emergency rooms are closed and not recorded. If you feel comfortable and would like to tell your story, so we have a record of lives being impacted by the government’s restructuring of health care in Alberta.
Please email EMSsafeline@gmail.com
Ali has a way to share how the collapse of Health Care in Alberta is impacting the people who live here, and she would like to include your story because you are not just a number; your life and the lives of your family matter to us. Help us put a face to the damage that is being done.
The state of emergency room/healthcare stories in Alberta. Read them here.
