What I believe: Fake people overpromise. Real people overdeliver

What I believe: Fake people overpromise. Real people overdeliver

I’ve spoken to quite a number of people about doing more marketing because I could see that their products were good, but I realised many of them were really scared of over-promoting themselves.

I get it. Legitimate people do not want to sound like the fakes. It was an issue for me too when I wanted to start writing about marketing, until I discovered this simple legitimacy hack instead:

Proof, not promise.

What does that mean?

People dislike fakes because they are always talking about how much they can do and how good they are, but rarely about what they have actually done. You just have to flip the script. Talk more about what you’ve done, and less about what you’ll do.

Here’s how to use this: instead of saying, “I’ll help you double your income by raising your prices the right way,” say, “Here’s a list of people I’ve helped raise their prices in the past. I doubled the income of every one of them. Here’s the video proof.”

If you’re going to use this, your product or service has to be genuinely good. The whole point is to be different from the fakes in your industry. For your first set of proof, you might have to do some free work to get it. That’s fine. If you do it the right way, it will pay you back.

So here’s the legitimate marketing cycle:

Get proof. Sell with it. Get more proof. Sell more wit it.

P.s. We occasionally use this at Sayf. Post content about how the people in our programs are doing. Nothing more. Then people ask to pay for the next before we offer it to them.

P.s.s. Would you want that I want with you on your offers and pricing? Please send me a mail at Abdullahadedokunola@gmail.com.
