Can you believe how quickly this year is flying by? I hardly can. Yesterday, I had the gift of going on a sunset hike through fields of wildflowers to honor Lammas (also known as Lughnasadh), the sacred halfway point between Summer Solstice and Fall Equinox. Traditionally, this is the first harvest, a time when our ancestors would celebrate having bread again after months of scarcity. It’s a moment of gratitude, transition, and preparation.

Since July 29, we've been in the rune Thurisaz in the Runic Calendar, the third rune of the Elder Futhark—and it’s one I’ve been sitting with deeply. My first association with Thurisaz was "thorn"—a symbol of boundaries, protection, and sometimes discomfort. But as I’ve worked with it more, its meaning has expanded.

The root “Thur” means giant, connecting this rune to the primal Jotnar (giants) in Norse mythology forces of chaos, nature, and raw power. Thurisaz also carries the thunder of Thor, the god who holds those chaotic forces in check with his hammer. These giants came before the gods, meaning creation itself emerged from chaos.

In this rune, we face the wild, unexpected forces of life, those “nuclear blast” moments that shake everything up. But with the energy of Thor, we also access the power to meet those moments with strength, resilience, and awakened response. This rune isn’t just about reacting it’s about how we react. For me, it lives in the solar plexus, the energetic center of willpower, courage, and healthy boundaries.

Thurisaz reminds us:

  • You’re not in full control of the world, but you are in control of your response.

  • Chaos can be a catalyst for awakening.

  • Boundaries can both protect and empower creation.

This is the thorn that wakes you up. It may sting, but it also sharpens your focus and reminds you what you're here to create.

If you’ve been feeling intense, shaken, or on the edge of transformation, you’re not alone. There’s power in that pressure if you choose to meet it.

In that spirit, I’m offering some Back to School Self-Care Specials to help you ground, recharge, and realign as the seasons shift. Whether you're heading back to a classroom, managing a busy household or simply feeling the energetic pivot of the year, these sessions are here to support you.
