“Everything has its wonders, even darkness and silence, and I learn, whatever state I may be in, therein to be content.”

Earlier this month, I escaped the London heatwave for a few days, swapping it for the blustery coastal breezes of Eastbourne. Strolling along the promenade, I came across this gorgeous mural, by artist Ellie Fryer. The deep blue, plus the undersea theme was so cooling, just what my overcooked body craved. This weekend away was a gift to myself as I try to replenish my depleted creative well. We all need breaks, variety and inspiration. I hope you gift yourself these too over the busy summer period!

You’ve probably heard of EFT tapping before (emotional freedom technique), but maybe it’s sounded a bit too woo for you. If you still need convincing, Tapping: Surprising Science Behind Healing Claims (and how to do it) might win you over. Good Life Project podcast host Jonathan Fields and New York Times bestselling author Jessica Ortner discuss the scientific studies demonstrating the benefits of tapping, and Jessica explains how to do it yourself.

I’m a big fan of Jennifer Zarin, LCAT’s journaling expertise. Her recent conversation, On Journaling and Visibility with Brandi Amara Skyy was timely for me, coming right after I completed two different visibility programmes. Brandi shared her experience journaling, performing, and moving into memoir writing, as well as her four-tier visibility framework (and a gift of prompts - I’ll be digging into these myself!) A great chance to reflect on how you want to be visible.

If you want to slow down and give yourself some TLC this summer, grab a cuppa and enjoy Emily Male’s latest Slow Sunday Letter: 10 Ways To Romanticise Your Beautiful Ordinary Life. It’s full of mindful tips for gifting yourself simple, quiet joy in everyday life. You can also listen to Emily’s calming voiceover if you fancy closing your eyes and relaxing instead of reading.

In my latest Weekend Read, I wrote about flipping the script on visibility, considering it as an opportunity for expression, rather than a push to perform. You can read the full post here:

Some prompts you could reflect on:

  • What does visibility mean to you? Do you want/need to be visible?

  • I want to be visible because…

  • Where does visibility feel hard for you? Why?

  • When/where/how are you happy expressing yourself?

  • What do you want to share with the world? Why?

Take a tech break. As I explained in my essay two weeks ago, I’ve been in a creative funk, feeling pulled in too many directions. So, over the summer, I’m making a conscious effort to spend less time online and more time on analogue pursuits. If you need a bit of help with this, why not check out the lovely Claire Venus ✨ free Digital Detox challenge (still available for a couple more weeks). I get the irony of going online to access the challenge, but Claire always gives simple, actionable advice, if you need an extra push to put down the tech!

✨✨✨✨✨

Wishing you all a wonderful Wellbeing Wednesday! 💖
