It’s not an exaggeration to say that Inspired by Rachel Held Evans is one of the main reasons I wanted to write Better Ways to Read the Bible, and it’s been such an honor to hear that they’ve become companion guides for so many people as they navigate reconstruction.
Honestly, this is the book I quote the most when I preach and it’s probably the book I have recommended most frequently to those going through the deconstruction and reconstruction process at my church. Here’s one of my favorite quotes from the book:
“Dignified or not, believable or not, ours is a God perpetually on bended knee, doing everything it takes to convince stubborn and petulant children that they are seen and loved. It is no more beneath God to speak to us using poetry, proverb, letters, and legend than it is for a mother to read storybooks to her daughter at bedtime. This is who God is. This is what God does.”
