I love the idea of more trains, but let’s look at how Japan (and, increasingly, China) does it. Night trains are romantic and all, but in all fairness, who wants to travel for 12hrs+ on a train with barely working WiFi, no (fancy) restaurant or entertainment, no proper working desk, and sleeping in a metal sardine box. All that at €300? You do this once, maybe, as an experience, and then…

I love the idea of more trains, but let’s look at how Japan (and, increasingly, China) does it. Night trains are romantic and all, but in all fairness, who wants to travel for 12hrs+ on a train with barely working WiFi, no (fancy) restaurant or entertainment, no proper working desk, and sleeping in a metal sardine box. All that at €300? You do this once, maybe, as an experience, and then never again.

The idea of fancy sleeper trains with 5 star hospitality, food and company, isn’t what we’re offered today.

The only way forward is high speed trains. And these could run at night too.
