How to Protect your Writer's Soul

Was scrolling through the platform. Saw some content with an astronomical number of likes, even though it was some kind of artistic soul killers. Bit crazy to take advice from someone who tells you that you should write with the help of a robot, but if there’s an audience for that, why would they stop, right?

Simple observation: the vast majority of writing advice is just designed to help you find success in this society at any cost (or tell you that you’re missing some secret sauce that you’ll only understand once you buy their training course).

  • “Write every day,” when the universe chooses when it wants to flow through you.

  • “Write for your audience,” when you write for yourself first.

  • “Kill your darlings,” when your darlings are your style. Excessive editing kills your personality.

  • “Stick to one niche,” when we are multidimensional human beings capable of transforming ourselves into whatever we want.

  • “Write what sells,” the ultimate dumbing down. Become one of the other commercial pieces of crap that this world gives you.

I could go on and exegete all of these stale pieces of advice that only serve to kill your personality, creativity, and uniqueness.

These people want your clicks. And to turn you into the same little whore they’ve become. Dilute your fire to please others. Disguise your voice to please others. Move away from who you are and become what society wants you to be. And maybe after selling your father, mother, and dignity on the altar of views, maybe a little success will await you after producing pieces of writing that you hate.

They practice art through the lens of capitalism. The same system that encourages you to sell junk if it has the potential to make a lot of money. The very antithesis of those murmurs of the universe that pass through you without reason.

My advice may not make you rich. They’re not even advice because I don’t give a damn whether you follow them or not. But I have a few mantras in my notebooks.

I am not immune to doubts. Nor to the corruption of this world. When I lose my way, I read them. There is a Japanese expression: Kotodoma. The idea that words carry spiritual power and that you can use them to shape your reality. Words are actions. Spells that can be used at will.

These mantras are my protective spells when I feel like the world wants to break me. I’ve developed them over the years. Up to you to decide whether you find some of them useful or not.

  • If you need praise to continue, you’re not built for this

  • You’re not the algorithm’s bitch

  • If you quit, you confirm your worst fear

  • If you’re afraid to offend, you’re afraid to exist

  • If you want guarantees, don’t choose art

  • Your worth cannot be measured by any number.

  • Write, publish, then detach

  • I do not need to be understood

  • I write because it makes me happy

  • Being in the arena doesn’t scare me.

  • My work does not kneel

  • Main character energy

  • I can achieve everything

  • If I decide, I can

  • I’m built for greatness

  • My intuition is my guide

  • I can choose my destiny

  • I have no limitations

  • I’m not ashamed of my ambitions

  • I outlast doubt

  • I outgrow environments

  • I outwork hesitation

  • I decide who I become

  • I create my reality

  • I’m on this earth to be me

  • I do not announce, I execute

  • I don’t care about my reputation

  • I am unpredictable

  • I allow myself to touch my magic

  • Every refusal is a filter of the universe

With love.
Have an amazing saturday.
Take care.
