HOT STUFF
What is wednesday if I don’t come with something HOT.
Well, there’s a lot to go round today, so sit tight and cross your legs…
So I don’t know if we’ve all noticed, but the number of conversations around anxiety, burnout, and nervous system wreck has been a lot lately, and sadly, it is very real.
It’s almost like we’ve all just becoming jumpy, constantly expecting the next bad thing to happen, KPIs etc.
But can you really blame us?
Life is already life-ing, then you add being a woman, then you add being a Nigerian woman at that, fantastic.
Therapy always ranks as one of the best ways to regulate your nervous system, right? Except between me and you not everybody is in therapy. In fact, most people aren’t.
Abi are we all in therapy now?
Some people can’t afford it, some don’t have the time, and others like me are just too African to consider it, so we bottle things up and perform “fine,” because the thought process is:
“What do you mean I’m paying someone to talk?”
“People have gone through worse.”
“Our fathers didn’t go through therapy and they survived.”
Well, yes, they stifled it down and acted normal, and it shows sometimes. Small small. IYKYK.
So if you ever come across a habit or ritual that helps regulate your nervous system, something that makes your body feel a little safer, and reminds your mind that not everything is an emergency… abeg, collect it with both hands.
I did some of the work for you. Here are a few videos I handpicked because they’re genuinely helpful, and surprisingly therapeutic.
