The Trump administration is attempting to build a national database of all voters, replete with lots of sensitive data including driver’s licenses and partial Social Security numbers. As Donald Trump made clear in his speech on elections last week, the purpose of this unprecedented federal intervention in state election administration is to purge hundreds of thousands of people from voter rolls who the Trump administration claims are noncitizens.

However, the federal government is having a difficult time building this list, because most states—including all Democratic-run states and even many Republican-run states—are refusing to hand over their unredacted voter files. As a result of their refusal, thirty states (plus Washington, D.C.) have been sued by the Trump administration.

Here is the good news: the Trump administration is zero for 16 in these lawsuits so far. That includes victories for state election officials in New Mexico, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Connecticut in the past ten days. What’s more, 10 of the 16 district court judges to rule on these cases were appointed by Republican presidents, including seven by Donald Trump himself.

Unfortunately, and unsurprisingly, the Trump administration is not giving up. They are continuing their lawsuits against the other 15 states that have refused to hand over their data, and appealing all 16 of the lawsuits they have lost. In other words, the people who protect our elections still need your help.

There is a way you can contribute directly to the legal defense fund for Democratic state officials in these lawsuits against the Trump administration. It’s called the Democracy Legal Fund, and it is operated by the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State (DASS), which is the national party committee that works to elect Democrats in secretary of state elections around the country.

I have put together an ActBlue page where you can contribute to the Democracy Legal Fund operated by the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State. On this page, you can also contribute to Bowers Kerbel Media, which is the two-person pro-democracy organization that operates Wolves and Sheep and the Bowers News Media news and activism email list. The amounts you donate to each entity can be adjusted.

Please, split a $10 donation between the Democracy Legal Fund from the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State (DASS) and Bowers Kerbel Media. Donate directly to the legal efforts of Democratic secretaries of state who are fighting to keep sensitive voter data out of the Trump administration’s hands.
