William Licht · Costa Rica Good News Report

I first visited Costa Rica in 2009 and, wow, what a change it was from the USA! I came here with a suitcase, an open mind, and absolutely no idea how much this little country was going to change my life. There was something about the people, the mountains, the beaches, the coffee, the wildlife, and that magical phrase, Pura Vida, that grabbed hold of me and never let go.

The people are so friendly here. A trip to the store can turn into a half-hour conversation. Neighbors wave. Strangers smile. People actually seem interested in how you are doing, and somehow life feels a little less rushed and a whole lot more human.

The healthcare system has been amazing for me, and next week I am scheduled to get a brand-new set of front choppers installed! At my age, that is exciting stuff! I figure if I am going to smile this much in Costa Rica, I might as well have a decent set of teeth to show off!

But honestly, one of the greatest things about living here is waking up every morning knowing that another adventure is waiting. Some days it is a drive through the mountains, a trip to a hidden beach, lunch at a little soda, or simply sitting with a cup of Costa Rican coffee and enjoying the view. There is always something to discover.

Costa Rica taught me that happiness does not have to be complicated. Slow down. Smile more. Talk to people. Enjoy today.

I came here looking for something different. What I found was a whole new way of living.

Pura Vida forever!
