You're Invited: Poetry Workshop!

I am SO very excited to announce that I will be teaching a summer poetry workshop for The Rabbit Room this August! Please join me there; it’s going to be an amazing opportunity for poets of all skill levels to learn collaboratively and build creative community. Whether you’re a first-time word-wrangler or have been published in more literary journals than you can count, there’s welcome waiting for you here.

This is an interactive workshop experience designed to help you hone your technical skills and gain confidence in your work through hands-on feedback from your peers. During each ninety-minute Zoom session, you’ll learn tools for taking a poem all the way from the initial spark of inspiration to a final polished draft. Best of all, you’ll work alongside other poets to practice skills in real time and exchange collaborative feedback in a supportive environment.

Great question! This workshop will meet on August 7, 14, 21, and 28 at noon Central Time. Each session will start with a brief overview of a particular poetic technique, taught by Ashlyn McKayla Ohm, poet and Rabbit Room facilitator.

Following your group learning experience, you’ll join a Zoom breakout room alongside a small group of fellow poets to discuss topics from the main session, give and receive feedback on your poems in progress, and connect with each other. You’ll be with the same breakout group for the duration of the workshop, giving you a chance to cultivate creative community. Each breakout room is also facilitated by an experienced poet from the Rabbit Room community who will not only lead the conversation but also provide their own wisdom.

And by participating in this opportunity, you’ll be able to submit your workshopped poem for consideration by the Rabbit Room Poetry Substack publication team.
