Recently two amazing things have happened in the little world of Whistlebare. First, the 3rd Junior Goat Slave’s gorgeous, glamazon of a girlfriend liked a pair of my trousers so much that she wanted a pair for herself! Secondly, when relaying this to me JGS3 was not requesting that I make her a pair but rather asking for sewing guidance for himself!

The trousers in question were the pink, frilly ‘Lane pants’ that featured in one of my newsletters in March. We decided that the best course of action would be for me to sew a (sadly frilless) pair for him and so be able to demonstrate techniques to be employed in his Gf’s pair. You have to admire the skill with which JGS3 organised to acquire his own pair of trousers in an entirely altruistic way. I had some double gauze, printed with rather fine crocodiles, in my stash that he thought would be perfect.

Much fun was had in the sewing studio with JGS3 revealing all sorts of hitherto unknown talents. Fabric was cut with care and accuracy. Pattern was matched with military precision. Great consideration was given to which design features were most important - generous pockets being at the top of the list. Seams were sewn perfectly straight, even the overlocker was wrestled into submission!

I hope that you agree that the outcome was fabulous! I would just like to thank JGS3 and his Gf for being such brilliant sports goofing around for our photoshoot - yes, her legs are really that long! I must also give a special mention to the magnificent ‘Cars crocs’ the indisputed stars of the event!

We celebrated a job well done with a lovely glass of wine at Coxon & Coxon across the street from Whistlebare Fold. It brings this mama great joy that even one of my feral boys so enjoyed creating something beautiful and considered for someone special. He’s got the bug now and has already chosen his next pattern….

Last call for a lovely relaxing day of knitting and yoga in Berwick Upon Tweed! There are still one or two places left for our first event next weekend, Saturday 4th July. There’s a link below if you would like to join us - I can’t wait!

Whistlebare Fold is open from 8.45am - 5pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am - 5pm on Sundays. Online orders remain open as ever.

If you would like to visit, you can find us at: 17A Bridge St, Berwick-upon-Tweed, TD15 1ES

Very best wishes,

Alice
