This week I am interrupting usual Whistlebare communications to spread the word about a new platform called Sewcial.

A couple of years ago I blocked Instagram and Facebook from my phone. I was done with allowing Meta to try and control my every waking thought and emotion. There is no question my day to day quality of life improved immeasurably. I was sad however, that the inspiring and supportive crafting communities that had originally attracted me to social media were gone - no longer allowed by the mighty 'algorithms’ as apparently only mean spirited drama sells and only money matters.

So it is with great delight that I am spreading the word about Megan Nielsen’s new craft based social media platform SEWCIAL.

No algorithm, No advertising, No agenda.

Here’s how Megan describes it -

How is this possible? That was my first thought. How can a social media platform survive without advertising revenue? Well that’s the best bit. Sewcial is not free, it acknowledges that technical expertise and hosting costs money and so all users pay a nominal fee. Subscription costs a very accessible £1.99 per month - less than a cup of coffee. In this way the ideals of Sewcial are protected.

I’ve signed up, I really hope that lots of you will too so we can return to the good old days of happy, inspiring, digital craft community!

Last call for a lovely relaxing day of knitting and yoga in Berwick Upon Tweed! There are still one or two places left for our first event next weekend, Saturday 4th July. There’s a link below if you would like to join us - I can’t wait!

Whistlebare Fold is open from 8.45am - 5pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am - 5pm on Sundays. Online orders remain open as ever.

If you would like to visit, you can find us at: 17A Bridge St, Berwick-upon-Tweed, TD15 1ES

Very best wishes,

Alice
