I am not at all educated in the reading of the stars. I get my information from my many experts in the fields. You can check out who I follow here on Substack and whose articles I frequently share, (here is one from Lynn Hayes) and find the one that speaks to you. So my post is not based on any expert understanding of astrology. Rather, my post is all about the symbolism of a solar eclipse and what messages we may receive relative to this event.
All I know is that I have been feeling the effects of all of the solar activity.
Each of us probably experience a variety of symptoms relative to whatever the planets and stars are doing at any particular moment, but this week, apparently the energy is more intense than normal.
As the moon was waning from the full moon we experienced a couple weeks ago, I found that I was experiencing some out-of-the-ordinary challenges, especially last week. My computer got hacked, which resulted in almost an entire day of trying to save files and then wipe my computer. A couple of other creepy experiences which resulted in the need to reinforce energetic boundaries and call in Angelic reinforcements. One random trip to Lowes for a couple of bags of mulch completely wiped me out, and I almost found I could barely make it back home.
I believe in symbolism. Spirit uses symbols to communicate with us and give us encouragement and hints about our lives. I am always open to symbols and hidden messages, so when I think of the new moon, I think about a time when the moon is not visible in the sky. I tend to prefer the term ‘dark moon’ until that tiny little sliver of a moon shows up a day or two later. To me, that is the true ‘new’ moon. But when the moon is dark or shadowed from our point of view, that doesn't mean it isn't there. The moon is symbolic of all those things in our lives that are not readily visible, our shadow self, some call it. It is also symbolic of the Sacred Feminine. When there is a new moon, it has been waning for some time. This is symbolic of things that are passing out of our lives. What is it in your life that you want to get rid of? Anxiety? Anger? Troubled relationships? Perceived offenses? Maybe financial difficulties or sickness?Why don't you see those things passing out of your life right now? Why don't you go within to find your true light, the light that shines out from within you?
I received a great idea from a different author here on Substack, who suggested you find something to throw in the trash representing what you wanted ‘eclipsed’ out of your life. I chose to throw away an old business card, symbolizing any outdated versions of my business or my perceived mission in life, and an old expired credit card, symbolizing any unhealed limited beliefs in regards to abundance.

I love that we can all support each other in this work. None of us has the entire story. I tend to avoid reading what other people have to say until I have received my own guidance from Spirit, so I am not influenced by what they say, however, after I feel complete with what my own Guides and inner voice have communicated, if I happen upon someone with some amazing ideas, I don’t mind sharing!
A solar eclipse is also symbolic of something being hidden behind something else. In the case of the new moon, we cannot see the moon because the dark side of the moon is the side that is facing the earth. In a solar eclipse, the light of the sun is hidden behind the shadow of the moon. So symbolically, shadows are hiding the light. Shadows are really nothing. They are just what is cast when the sun is shining on the other side of something. So really, what may come up for you today is that the light is shining, but you can't see it. The shadow of something hidden from view is blocking your light.
This does tend to remind me of the story I heard about President Trump being whisked away in a laundry cart while everyone else had to take the risk of being shot down in Air Force One due to a security threat. Something (or someone) is being hidden or shadowed while everyone thinks it is business as usual. I am not expressing any opinions here. I am just stating the symbolism is interesting.
Don't allow yourself to be offended today. It is just a shadow. It has no power over you. Let go of grudges and offenses. Be kind. Whatever does come up for you today, know that it will pass. Depending on where in the world you are, you may not even be able to see the eclipse, or, if you do, you may only see a portion of the entire event. This is symbolic of the shadows of the events in our lives being very transitory.
Many cultures take great care NOT observing the eclipse. It is thought to be a bad omen or practice which will bring some possibly undesired results. I would suggest you follow your own inner guidance. In my little neck of the woods, the eclipse will not be visible anyway.
Allow what is passing out of your life to pass. Thank it for its valuable lessons. Be ready for the light of the sun and the moon to come back. After the darkness has past, new things can begin to birth in your life. New and better things. There is a saying that nothing can be born without there first being a death of sorts. There has to be some sort of release before new things can come into our experience.
Welcome all the things that come and go in and out of your life. Know that it is all good. Learn from your mistakes and grievances. Forgive others and yourself.
Many people focus more on the new beginning aspect of a new moon than they do the release part. I find that many people avoid sitting in the dark with their soul. The shadows are where we hide things we don’t want to address. I don’t tend to focus on manifesting until I see that first little sliver of a moon a day or two later. When the moon is dark, I remind myself to sit in the dark. Allow wisdom and insight to reveal itself.
This year, it seems manifesting has been more challenging than it normally is in a 1 year. If you remember, around the beginning of the year, I chatted about how 2026 was a 10/1 year. The Tarot cards associated with these numbers are the Wheel of Fortune and the Magician. These cards indicate huge changes in our lives and the need to focus on creating our next best chapter.
However, if we add the 8 from August to the 1 for the year, we arrive at 9, and this number is all about letting go, surrender, and release. It is the culmination of a cycle. If we add the 9 for August to today’s date, the 12, we arrive at either 21 or 12, depending on how you add the numbers. (12 +9 or 1+2+9)
Think of the World Card in the Tarot (number 21) and the Hanged Man (the 12).
The World card has to do with celebrating a success that has been achieved over time. It reminds me of winning the Olympics. Athletes train for years to qualify to be in the Olympics, and if they win, this is an achievement based on years of training.
The Hanged Man card has to do with release. It points to surrendering personal convenience for a greater cause.
(These cards are unique to today’s date, August 12, 2026, so if you are reading this on a different date, you can skip over this part.)
Today you may need to do some reevaluating. You may have already achieved some success, and still be living on the wave of that achievement. You may want to reevaluate whether a prior goal is still relevant to your current situation. You may need to surrender your identification with a prior version of yourself in order to move on to something new.

At the beginning of this year, I didn’t realize quite yet that my vision for myself had shifted. I attempted to go on with business as usual, planning classes and events as I normally would have in the past, but I ran into roadblocks on every side. My normal ability to embody a previous version of myself and my mission was continually interupted with various situations that required my attention. I have been learning the art of living in the present moment and being okay with not having a plan. This is not my forte.
Apparently this has been the case for many of us. I am continually chatting with clients and associates who confirm that this year has been unpredictable to say the least.
I would remind you, when the moon is ‘new’, we may not have formulated a plan yet. We may be still focused on what we have achieved in the past. We may be hesitant to shift direction, especially if the direction we were heading was enjoyable. The moon is dark, so we cannot see what may be hiding in the shadows. We may think we have a plan, but more than likely, something is going to reveal itself that we may not have anticipated. Surrender to the unknown is the only option.
I would invite you to take some time today to sit in the dark with your soul. Ask your soul what needs to be ‘eclipsed’ out in order to make room for something new. Do your manifesting tomorrow (or the next day, or even next month!)
