As a person whose main job is to assist individuals in navigating life and receiving messages from the Spirit world, I have been receiving messages for most of my life. As a child, I was raised in an extremely devoted born-again Evangelical family. The Bible was our only source of guidance, along with the preachers who explained it to us. Anything that did not fit into that belief system or was considered taboo was absent from my early upbringing.
But I would have dreams. And unexplained experiences. I didn’t understand them and they did not fit into the narrative, so I assumed, as did my parents, that I was being hassled by the devil. I am sure it was challenging for my parents, and I am not sure what they did, other than pray a lot.
I talk about my experiences being a sensitive soul navigating that belief system in my book, Journey to Joy.
At the age of seven, we acquired our first television set. Prior to that, my parents were required to sign a statement that they did not own a television set in order to be a member of the church. As a teenager, we were discouraged from listening to that evil rock and roll music, going to the movies, or even attending fairs and carnivals. But eventually at the age of sixteen I guess the Holy Spirit decided movies were not going to send me to Hell, and I excitedly attended my very first movie at a theatre.
At some point Spirit began talking to me. I would receive guidance from Bible stories, and then eventually from movies, television shows, and songs on the radio. Astrology, numerology, and tarot cards were still taboo.
I remember at some point a ‘prophet’ came to our church and said he could get a message from anything. A rock. A tree. And my world began to expand. I indeed would feel messages coming to me from nature. From random people talking to each other in the grocery store. Sometimes I was surprised by what would come out of my mouth. And that got me in trouble.
Now, I am able to receive messages from almost anything.
I believe that the Divine goes by many names. We are expressions of Divinity living life in a human body. We have chosen to forget why we are here. So, knowing a bit about how our life will unfold, we have been given tools for accessing Divine wisdom. These tools are our spiritual GPS.
Since I was raised super-religious, my first tool was the Bible. I would receive messages from stories in the Bible. Some of them were helpful, and some of them just stated how I was feeling at the time. But most of the time, they offered me hope for better days to come.
Sometimes in my message of the day which I offer on Facebook and Instagram, I will still refer to familiar Bible stories to offer a message of hope or guidance. Not because I believe all the stories are true. But because I believe that life is a parable and we can learn valuable lessons and receive inspiration and guidance from a variety of sources.
If I had been raised in a different environment, I would probably have a different GPS.
Let’s use the example of astrology. Western astrology is talking about the upcoming lunar eclipse in Pisces. Pisces is all about emotions and water. Lunar eclipses happen when a shadow crosses in front of a full moon. The sign it is in symbolizes what issues may come up.
However, Vedic astrologers (I touch base with one just for reference) say that the eclipse is happening in Aquarius, which is about air, technology, and the collective experience of humanity rather than the individual.
Who is right? Does it matter?
I don’t claim to any super dooper powers that would say one is right and one is wrong. I just say that these two different forms of astrology are two different ways of navigating life. It would be like choosing between Google Maps or Apple Maps. Both of them will get you there. But they may take you different ways. Or maybe not.
I may look at this week of this lunar eclipse and say it is very fortunate and someone else may say it is challenging. I think our individual experiences are all going to be different.
Last week I went to Texas. It was sunny and over 100 degrees almost every day. Back home in Virginia, it rained frequently and didn’t get over 90 degrees even one day. Each one of us are navigating life in a slightly different energetic location. It may be raining where you are and the sun is shining where I am and neither of us is wrong.
There has also been some chatter about a consciousness shift and the emergence of ‘the new Earth.’ Some are saying there has been a shift and some of us have shifted into a new reality, while we are simultaneously living with people who are still navigating the ‘old Earth.’
I will say, I did experience a shift, I guess about two weeks ago that has felt very fortunate. Prior to that, I had some challenges that threw me off my game for about a week. I won’t give them power by talking about them, but I was afraid to leave my house by myself for a couple of days. And then something shifted. I felt it. Whatever it was, my Angels chased it away or maybe I entered into the ‘new Earth.’ I am not going to name it, but things improved.
This week, on the day of the lunar eclipse, I will be welcoming four students in the community of Reiki healers. This is a very fortunate expression of the eclipse I would say! Receiving this experience on this particular day was not planned. It just so happened that was the day everyone had available.
Other people may have a completely different experience of this eclipse and that is okay too.
My big problem with the theory of the ‘new Earth’ is that some may have a tendency to judge who has evolved and who has not. Who is living in this new timeline and who is still navigating life in the old one?
Having been raised in my particular church, we were constantly anticipating ‘the Rapture.’ This is when Jesus was supposedly coming back to gather all of the ‘saints’ to heaven, leaving behind those who did not accept Jesus into their hearts. This was used to manipulate and control our behavior. I remember my youth pastor saying, “What if you are at the movies when the rapture happens? Will you be left behind? Do you want to take that chance?”
As a small child, I would get up in the middle of the night and peer into my parents’ bedroom to make sure they weren’t raptured and I was somehow left behind to fend for myself. I now call that child abuse.
So I tend to resist any theories that involve discluding anyone. I believe in love. I believe in including everyone. But I also believe in free will and that each of us make choices everyday that involve consequences.
I am not going to continue to allow bad behavior. But I am also not going to decide who has made the club and who has missed it.
I am not really focusing on whether or not portions of humanity have shifted realities. I believe everyday we can make a choice to shift our consciousness and live the highest expression of reality. I can choose to be afraid or I can choose to stand in my power and the power of love. I tend to avoid experiences that make me afraid. I don’t like horror movies or crazy amusement park rides.
The lunar eclipse is going to happen whether we believe in any symbolism or not.
One of my grandchildren had a birthday on the very day of the solar eclipse. I do believe this could be a very transformative year. That has already been the case with her move to Texas from Virginia. Will there be more? Who knows.
Every thought we think is a prayer. When we receive a message or guidance from Spirit, whether it comes through the phases of the moon, the stars, Tarot cards, numerology, or a song that plays inside our heads, it is an opportunity to listen. Pay attention to what is happening in our thoughts and emotions. Don’t allow ourselves to drop into fear.
A full moon symbolizes a light that shines into a dark place. Full moons often shine light on things we would normally not see or know. When a shadow crosses over the moon, that could symbolize more secrets or more things that create darkness or obscurity. Maybe it will be harder to see reality or to understand mysteries than other days.
Or, maybe this is an opportunity to release an old way of living life and begin to see things in a different way.
Think of all these tools as opportunities for Spirit to guide you. They are not so fated that you cannot change your course.
If I have the GPS on in my car, which I do frequently, even if I know where I am going, I can choose to follow what the GPS is telling me to do, or to choose differently. I often turn on the GPS even when I am familiar with the route, just because maybe there is an accident or traffic that I am not aware of. Maybe I need to watch my speed. I may say to myself, I think I know better. I am not taking that route. And the GPS will reroute itself according to my choices.
Don’t ever give your power over to a tool. You are not a victim to fate. If Spirit is indicating a challenge, use that information wisely. Maybe make a different choice. Maybe don’t schedule a vacation while Mercury is retrograde. If you are planning a trip with other people, maybe make sure Venus is not retrograde. (I learned this one the hard way!!)
Any tools are opportunities to make our lives easier and more enjoyable, but you are not a victim to the tool. I resist clients who come to me frequently and ask me the same questions over and over. I may refuse to answer a question that I feel disempowers you or is manipulating someone else’s free will. If I feel that you need to work on yourself or make different choices, I will tell you.
As spiritual souls navigating Earth life, never feel like you are not in charge. Any form of GPS you use is not taking away your power. You are free to choose how to navigate your life. Yes, sometimes a tree falls across the road that the GPS was not aware of and you have to figure out what you are going to do next all on your own.
Let’s release fear of impending doom and begin to navigate life with joy and love.
I believe that each of us has come into our life with a purpose and a mission. We have chosen to forget why we are here and realize it along the way. Some of us remember and some of us don’t. Some of us fulfill our mission even while struggling or engaging in questionable activities, because the results of those experiences provide a catalyst for change that would not have occurred otherwise.
If you desire some personal guidance or assistance healing programs or beliefs that have outlived their usefulness in your life, consider a personal session.
Thanks for your love and support as together we navigate our lives with the tools we are each given. Next week we will discuss how the tools of Tarot and numerology can offer some insight into our collective experience of September.
