August 4, 2026-Primary Election Day in Michigan
Today is the day to vote in the primary for Michigan. You have probably voted, but have all of your friends and family in your phone contacts voted for our democracy? Here is the link to find anyone’s place to vote in person: Where do I vote?
We need every single vote! Look through your phone contacts now and make sure all of your family and friends have voted by 8:00 pm TODAY! Ask them to contact 10 friends to confirm that they have also voted. This is what it is all about! Today is the day!!
From August 1- August 31, every dollar you donate through ACT Blue to West MI Indivisible will be matched up to $500! AND, because we are in one of seven identified battleground states (Alaska, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio and Texas), we can unlock an additional $300. The challenge is on. One of our families whose father is being detained in Baldwin has two children who have been particularly traumatized by their father’s detention and probable upcoming deportation. We have been talking with the attorney who believes there is a reasonable chance to show extreme negative psychological impact on the children if the father would be deported. This requires assessments and reports as well as testimony at the hearing. The expert for the case is willing to do this for a reduced fee of $555. We are helping to raise the money to cover this cost and hope we can assist to keep the father in this country. Please consider making a contribution using the Venmo account below, and make a note of “children’s assessments” so the funds are properly directed.

Protest-Bridge Brigade - Friday, August 7 at Hall SW over US-131, 4:30-5:30 pm. Friday, August 14, 21, 28, 4:30-5:30 pm, at Fuller SE over I-196. Come and join us! Try something new if you haven’t done this before. Every week, support grows for our demonstration against the Trump regime and what’s happening to our government. Bring a sign or flag if you have one, or use one of ours. We always have extras!
Educate yourself - Check out a book from our lending library or your public library about immigration or politics. Research actions at candidate websites you want to support or research the actions through the Democratic Party. Let’s all commit to making our activism really count this fall!

Election Matters
The last day to vote in Michigan’s Primary is August 4 today!!!! To view a sample ballot, click HERE and select your county, jurisdiction (township, city), and precinct. Go through your phone contacts and double check that all the people you know have voted!
This fall we are all invited to do actions that we have not done before. Pick a campaign and a way that you would like to get involved. Set a goal to do at least one action a week to get out the vote! There are basically 3 buckets you can look at to focus your energy.
West MI Indivisible will be having programs to have direct conversations with people, texting, postcarding and more. We will be focusing on CD 4 and the Jenison School board election but the techniques can be used for any candidate or ballot issue. Families Update - A lot of things happened during July!!
Two adults in one household who were released on bond in February finally received their work permits!
We were contacted by one of the area schools, a community organization, and a family we helped last year to see if we would be able to help new families. As a result, we have been assisting these two new families:
Family 1 has a mother, seven children, and a grandchild. The children are ages 7-21 and the grandchild is 5. The 21 year old is the only one working. The father is being held in Baldwin.
Family 2 has a mother and three children, ages 16, 12, and 8. The father is being held in Baldwin. The mother’s sister, picked up the same day as her husband, is in the process of being deported. Another part of the family we are helping is the grandmother who is being treated for cancer and has over $100,000 in medical bills.
Both of these families need food on a weekly basis and all of the children will need assistance getting ready for school. A special alert will go out next week with specifics for clothing, shoes, and any school supplies that will be needed.
We are continuing to provide food on a weekly basis to two other families and on a monthly basis to one more.
We are helping to feed a total of 24 people currently!
Ongoing Needs - dried black beans, canned tomatoes, Maseca bags of corn masa flour (available at WalMart), large bags of rice (Costco or Sam’s Club), sugar, salt, pepper, gallons of milk, large jugs of corn oil, fresh fruit and vegetables, packages of chicken, beef, or pork, sliced ham and cheese, bags of onions, laundry detergent, fabric softener, toothpaste, men’s and women’s deodorant, toilet paper, dish soap, paper towels, soap, body wash, lotion.
