Welcome to our latest weekly newsletter detailing happenings in West Kirby, Hoylake, Meols, Newton and Thurstaston.

The newsletter is taking a summer break for a couple of weeks - it’ll be back on Friday 21 August. but our website will continue to be updated.

Tesco Express is set to open in West Kirby on the site of the former Leaf restaurant.

An application to convert the building on Black Horse Hill and construct five homes on the remaining land was submitted last December and the application has been made in anticipation of it getting the green light. Read more.

A new publicly accessible defibrillator has been installed at Tanskeys Bistro on West Kirby’s promenade.

The owners were prompted to get one after a customer tragically suffered a heart attack and passed away. Read more.

A new committee has been formed to run West Kirby Christmas Lights.

It comes after the previous chair, Rachel Kehoe and several other members stepped down due to other commitments.

Tom Porter has been appointed as the new chair - we wish him and the rest of the new members every success, and thank the outgoing committee for their dedication, hard work and commitment.

  • The summer concerts series continues at St Hildeburgh’s Church on Stanley Road in Hoylake this Sunday at 4pm. There are 40 minute performances each weekend, with refreshments served. There is no admission fee but donations are requested.

  • A vibrant collection of contemporary pieces, from artists working with paint, printmaking and porcelain is on at the LAKE gallery on Grange Road in West Kirby until 8 August. The gallery is open Thurs – Sat, 10am – 4pm.

In June, westkirby.todaynews.co.uk was visited by more than 13,500 people and had around 20,000 page views. Our posts on Facebook, Instagram and X reached around 190,000 people, and we are also on Threads! Around 1,300 people subscribe to this weekly newsletter.
