Background:
A woman was going to meet a man she had recently met online the following day. The meeting carried an implicit blind-date intention. She asked whether the two of them could develop into a relationship.
Hexagram obtained: Xun to Jing.
Judgment:
This was a relationship reading. When a woman asks about romantic development with a man, the officials and ghosts line is taken as the significator god.
For relationship readings, the relationship between the host and corresponding lines should also be examined. The host line represents the woman, while the corresponding line represents the other party. In this case, the corresponding line was also occupied by the officials and ghosts significator god, so both methods pointed to the same man.
The host line was solitary active, while the corresponding line was prosperous and supportive. The hexagram presented a typical blind-date situation in which the man was proactive, the woman was resistant, and family elders were applying pressure.
1. The man’s appearance and proactive pursuit: the corresponding line aligned with Peach Blossom and Black Tortoise and clashed the host line
The significator god, officials and ghosts K metal, occupied the corresponding line and represented the man. It carried the force of the day to clash and overcome the host line.
In Six Lines interpretation, clash can indicate pursuit. This showed that the meeting had been actively requested and initiated by the man.
Officials and ghosts K metal was prosperous and supportive and also carried Peach Blossom, since A, G, D, and K are Peach Blossom branches.
In traditional image-based interpretation, K can suggest roundness, indicating that the man might have a relatively round face. Metal can represent the skeletal frame, while prosperous metal may indicate a larger frame and heavier build.
The line also aligned with Black Tortoise, which in traditional image-based interpretation can be associated with darker coloring. In this case, it suggested that the man might have a somewhat darker complexion.
2. The woman’s attitude and true intention: the solitary active host line clashed the corresponding line
The host line was solitary active, and it directly clashed the corresponding line representing the man.
The host line clashing the corresponding line revealed the woman’s subjective resistance. She did not feel attracted to the man and did not genuinely want the relationship to develop.
Although the host line D wood was void in the cycle, it became active and was filled, so it was no longer treated as void.
3. Pressure to marry and inner distress: the host transformed into punishment, while parents appeared on the second line
The active host line transformed into A water. Although this formed returning generate, it also created the A-D punishment.
Punishment represents distress, unhappiness, and emotional discomfort. This showed that the situation brought the woman frustration, pressure, and inner conflict rather than happiness.
The parents M water line provided further information. Parents appeared on the second line, which represents the home and household. This indicated that the pressure came from family elders urging her to marry.
Because of this pressure from her family, the woman felt deeply unhappy and distressed.
4. The broad image: a Six Clashes hexagram was unfavorable for romantic development
The main hexagram, 57.Xun, was a Six Clashes hexagram.
In relationship readings, Six Clashes is unfavorable because it represents opposition, separation, rejection, and difficulty forming a stable bond.
This further confirmed that the meeting would not lead to a relationship.
Encompassing I Ching Divination (Yi Mao, 易冒) states:
“If the hexagram is Xian, Heng, 60.Jie, or Tai, it is auspicious; only compatibility with clash and transforming into clash are unsuitable. If the hexagram is Kui, Ge, 40.Jie, or Li, it is inauspicious; even if the significator line is complete and transforms into compatibility, it is still not auspicious.”
Conclusion:
The two people would not develop into a relationship.
The man was interested and took the initiative, but the solitary active host line clashed the corresponding line, showing the woman’s resistance. The A-D punishment revealed her distress, while the parents line on the household position showed that she attended the meeting because of pressure from family elders.
The Six Clashes main hexagram further indicated that the relationship would disperse rather than develop.
Feedback:
After the meeting, the woman reported that the man was approximately 1.8 meters tall and had a heavier build.
She also confirmed that her family had been pressuring her intensely to marry. She did not want to get married and attended the meeting only to satisfy her elders.
The two had no further contact after the meeting.
