The Maine Woods are still in the border zone between winter and spring.
The ground around my cabin is mostly snow-free, but significant patches persist in sheltered areas. The drizzle falling this morning may mix with snow later in the day.
The ice on the lake has turned gray and sodden, but I can’t say how many days will pass before ice-out happens.
A few brave birds have returned from the south, but the tidal wave of migration hasn’t yet made it this far north.
Soon, the red maples will flower, coltsfoot will bloom along my driveway, and the popples (quaking aspens) will unfurl their tender green leaves. But not just yet.
So, while my wild neighbors and I wait for spring, I thought it would be a good time to put together a virtual tour of my cabin. Welcome! Come on in…
