Fully titled Silas Marner: the Weaver of Raveloe, this novel follows Silas, a weaver devoted to his craft, through moments of betrayal, vice, and virtue. When he meets an abandoned little girl, Silas must reconsider his life’s priorities as he becomes her adoptive father. Released in 1861, this was published a decade before Eliot’s most famous and beloved work, Middlemarch.
