Famously known for his novel Moby Dick, Herman Melville wrote both long form and short form fiction as well as the longest American epic poem (Clarel). In his short story, Bartleby the Scrivener, Melville explores what today’s audience might call “quiet quitting” and takes it to its extreme ends. What does it look like to slowly stop participating in work, in society, in life?
