I DON’T KNOW, WHAT TO SAY! Join one, join all, and thrash your head with me as we lose ourselves to the wonderful song that is “Imitate” by the LA band Liily. “Imitate” by Liily is a glorious song by one of the up and coming rock bands of the last few years. To be specific, AllMusic considers this band to be aggressive indie alt-rock in reference to exact Genre classification. I’ve seen this band live, and they truly “kill it”. Phenomenal performers really. This song is one of the latest songs featured on their self titled EP released earlier this year (June 14, 2024). The lead singer doesn't come across as particularly inviting live, but you can tell this band is destined for great things. One has to wonder if it was the small venue he was forced to occupy in the south as some bands are not truly appreciated when they visit a city like Memphis. A city that runs predominantly on either country or rap music. Anyway, some of their songs are unexpectedly powerful, and “Imitate” is no exception, with its impressive bass and thrashing sound.

You have to let go of any frustration while listening; this song serves as a focal point for channeling energy. I feel as if I want to break things but not as an act of destruction but an act of art. I highly recommend this song, as it captures the complexity of the “new wave” of rock bands entering the new age of the rock genre. I can't wait to hear more music from them. “Imitate” is one of their many breakthrough songs, and they have a few others that resonate deeply. I was excited to see them perform, especially since they didn't have an opening band. Hope you guys get a chance to check them out!
