A Quick Note on the Alberta Separation “Referendumb” and Its Relation to Trump’s Trade War

I have been meaning to tell you all about a couple more pro-Canada movements in Alberta, but I kept forgetting to do so due to this whole trade war thing.

The first one is called Before You Vote, and as Dave Cournoyer explains, it “has launched with the goal of informing Albertans about the risks of the separation, immigration and constitutional changes questions on the ballot on October 19.”

One of its founders is Anne McLellan, who is described on its site as having “served four terms as the Liberal MP for Edmonton Centre, during which she was Deputy Prime Minister of Canada, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Minister of Health, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, and Minister of Natural Resources.”

The second pro-Canada movement is called Alberta’s Voice, and I found out about it when I happened to walk past one of its “No to the Nine” lawn sides on Saturday. There is a lot of good information on its site, as well as a fun little online game where one can try in vain to pin a Canadian flag to Danielle Smith! :-)

That game reminds me of the early days of the Internet when a pop-up ad would appear my my screen, and it was near-impossible to close it because it would dash around the screen to escape from me clicking the “X” button!

As a reminder, the other movements I know are Forever Canadian, Lead Not Leave, Vote to Stay, and For Alberta, For Canada.

One might think that given the (overdue) breakdown of negotiations with Trump and the resulting (and necessary) retaliation by the Canadian government, Danielle Smith would decide to do what more than 70% — maybe even 80% — of Albertans want and end this “referendumb”. As I noted yesterday, the leader of the Parti Québécois has even gone back on his campaign promise to hold a separation referendum because he feels they have better things to worry about while Trump is in power.

But as reported by Zoe Mason for Canada’s National Observer, “Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says the provincial referendum on separation will continue as planned, despite the collapse of trade talks with the United States on Friday.”

I guess destroying Alberta’s economy to please her separatist puppet masters will always be Smith’s top priority. Even Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe is becoming more vocal in siding with Canada over Donald Trump, so she is completely isolating herself from the rest of the country with her fealty to “Daddy”.

One more thing: I read today that Vice President JD Vance called Canada a U.S. state — saying it was a “Freudian slip” — and also responded to our complaints about his government’s abuses of us with his best Pee-Wee Herman impersonation:
