By Richard Emil Miller (American; 1875 – 1943)
[I will be taking my vacation over the next couple days, and Volupta will take a small break as well. For this reason, I want today’s article to be reflective, spacious and nourishing, a vacation for yourself. Volupta will be back with you after the break the space of which always grows new ideas and insight]

There are few sensations that can almost immediately create a feeling of freedom and expansiveness like the one of the warm breeze on the skin or within the hair. We very much associate the image of hair moving against the wind, as we prance around the open horizon that is a meadow or a beach, with freedom. Working and talking with women, I have lost the count the amount of times they described freedom exactly so: warm wind in the hair and an open space.

Air fills the empty crevices of the body with its invigorating movement. It carries for us the quality of spirit. And spirit is of course, free. Untethered to the ground, bound to no convention, air floats high and free. It moves the water, moves the trees, moves the dust but it itself remains free. “Free spirit” is the term we use for a person we identify to possess these airy qualities.
