Melania Trump is Dems’ first target on the Epstein subpoena list if they retake the House: ‘She clearly has information’

Lawyer and journalist Katie Phang, who’s already suing Attorney General Todd Blanche to force the release of Epstein records, sat down for a podcast with Rep. Robert Garcia, the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee. The two of them spent the episode mapping out exactly what happens if Democrats take back the House after the midterms.

The Epstein saga still hasn’t been resolved, but if Democrats retake the House, we could learn a lot more about what exactly Melania Trump knows. I’ve worked hard to make sure the Epstein spotlight doesn’t fade, but that effort needs your support. Independent journalism only survives if the readers who depend on it choose to support it.

Should that happen, Garcia pointed out that Dems would obtain the power to start issuing subpoenas. That’s when Phang dropped a bombshell.

“At the top of that list is a woman by the name of Melania Trump.”

Garcia noted that Republicans spent years chasing Hunter Biden and the Clintons and said he intends to use that same precedent.

“I mean, does anyone here across the country think that the first lady doesn’t have additional information?” he said.

He pointed to the February 2000 photograph of Melania, Donald Trump, Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell at Mar-a-Lago. Then he turned to Melania’s own April 2026 press conference, one that Phang called “bizarre,” in which the First Lady denied ever being Epstein’s friend or victim while demanding that survivors get to testify in public hearings.

Melania’s infamous surprise Epstein press conference on April 9 of this year.

“She made that clear, and so we’re very interested,” Garcia said. “There’s no question that we want to talk to the first lady. Melania clearly has information.”

“There’s a lot of speculation about who knew who when, who was introduced to who, when and how, and so I think those are valid questions,” he added. “If Melania Trump wants real justice for the survivors, then she would work with us to try to get the truth.”

The interest Phang and Garcia are talking about did not appear in a vacuum. After HarperCollins UK was forced into a public apology and rushed edits over “unverified claims” that Epstein introduced Melania to Trump (claims that had already gone out in roughly 60,000 printed copies) Prince Andrew biographer Andrew Lownie doubled down at a Cambridge University lecture last year, telling the audience Melania had been “sleeping with Epstein before she met Trump” and that the detail was removed only after Trump complained.

“I had various references in my book to Melania Trump — Epstein had actually been her lover before Trump, but Trump didn’t like that in the book so he ordered it to be taken out of the book after about 60,000 copies had been printed,” Lownie said.

Trump biographer Michael Wolff piled on, claiming the hardcover edition of Lownie’s book still contains a passage quoting Epstein from a 2007 interview in which he said he “had sex with Melania a full year before Donald Trump commenced his relationship with Melania.”

Melania’s legal team has been in scorched-earth mode, forcing retractions and apologies from anyone who repeats the claims. Trump has publicly backed her, saying she is “very upset” by rumors that “demean” her. Phang’s bombshell suggests none of that legal firepower will matter if Democrats win the House.

The only question left is whether the midterms hand Garcia the power to subpoena the First Lady.
