Type Won Life™ · Type Won Life™

Welcome back, my friend ❤️ I’m so glad you’re here!

I’ve been thinking a lot about our growing community and the conversations we’ve been having lately. A while back we explored a sleep series together, and my hope is that it felt helpful, reassuring, and super practical!

These series always remind me how powerful it is when we focus on the science, break things down in simple and digestible ways, and take everyday action through small steps.

So for the next few weeks, I thought it would be meaningful to begin a new series on (drumroll please!)… food and nourishment. Not the overwhelming kind, but the kind that feels simple, steady, and aligned with your family’s values. My hope is that what you read here feels like a breath of fresh air!

This series is designed to bring clarity to an area that often feels confusing on the Type 1 Diabetes journey, and to help you feel more confident in the choices you make every day.

So you may be wondering why we’re focusing on food for this series. Raise your hand if you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by food choices? I’ve definitely been there too!

With a single Google search we’re met with an avalanche of information. Raw food, anti inflammatory, ketogenic, paleo, vegan, vegetarian, Whole 30, plant based, Atkins, blood type diet. It’s enough to make anyone’s head spin.

Even with my background in integrative health and wellbeing coaching, I still find myself feeling overwhelmed at times. That’s why in this series we’re slowing things down and returning to the basics.

Food doesn’t have to be super complicated or complex. Instead, we’ll take an intuitive and simplified approach that feels supportive for you and your entire family.

Food is deeply personal, and when Type 1 Diabetes touches a family, it’s often one of the first areas that feels disrupted.

  • What should we eat?

  • Will my T1D warrior still be able to enjoy ice cream and pizza?

  • What changes need to be made?

  • How do we support blood sugar without losing the joy of eating together?

Our family has asked these questions too. We’re constantly learning, refining, and experimenting as we go.

Nothing about the Type 1 diabetes journey is static, and we’re always discovering what feels supportive for our home.

So please remember wherever you are on the diabetes journey, you’re never alone and you’re definitely not behind!

Before we get into the good stuff, I want to offer a gentle reminder. Everything I share here is based in education and support.

I’m a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach, and my role is to help you build awareness, confidence, and clarity. I do not diagnose, treat, or prescribe.

Every T1D family is unique, so please use what feels helpful and always partner with your healthcare team for medical guidance.

So here is a little road map for the next few weeks! We’ll look beyond diet labels and return to the essentials. We’ll explore how food fuels our bodies, how it impacts blood sugar, and how it nourishes us from the inside out. We’ll specifically be peeling back the curtain on the three major macronutrients:

  • Carbohydrates - often the most confusing and most talked about nutrient in T1D homes

  • Protein - Truly a nutrient star that can be grounding, stabilizing but often overlooked

  • Fats - Nourishing, essential for blood sugar support and humming hormones but too often seen in a negative light… I’m hoping to help change that!

I won’t give everything away just yet, but I can promise you will walk away with simple tools, a clearer understanding, and a renewed sense of confidence that feels steady and grounded. You will also begin to see food in a way that feels less overwhelming and more empowering for your family!

Food is fuel, but it’s also meant to be enjoyed. My hope is that this series helps you feel more grounded, more confident, and more supported in the choices you make every day.

Before we kick off next week with carbohydrates, I encourage you to take a moment to notice how food feels in your home right now.

  • What feels most supportive?

  • What feels confusing or needs a little more clarity?

  • Are there habits or food rhythms you’re hoping to change?

Remember, there are no right or wrong answers. Let these reflective questions be an opportunity to slow down, check in and bring more awareness to the surface.

In our T1D family, we’ve recently reflected on the questions above. In this season, we actually felt we’re getting a little casual with some of the pantry items we’ve been ordering (Costco…gets me every time!) and we also want to be more mindful to utilize the groceries we have before buying more.

Maybe your insights look a little different than ours. Maybe you’re curious to understand how to incorporate more healthy fats onto your kiddos plates or you’re looking to better minimize hunger when heading to bed. I’ve got you covered, and I’m excited to share more in the coming weeks!

For now, I hope you’re enjoying your week and cheers to our journey ahead!
